Many leasing companies and banks have made installation of tracker system mandatory in diesel cars and petrol cars above 1500cc. To compensate for the cost(ripoff) the insurance charges are reduced by .5% to 1 % Well no harm in installing a tracking system, provided its effective.
There are three or four companies providing tracking facilities. All rely on mobile phone companies for navigation. No one uses satellite system because its too expensive. The result of relying on Ufone or mobilink is the moment you leave the city limits, signals start dropping and at some stage there is no signal at all. For example on the motorway, at Lilla interchange, ufone has no service. So at this stage, your 40000 worth of tracker is totally useless. Secondly, had tracker system been that effective, why havn't any company come out with facts and figures that so many stolen or snatch cars have been recovered due to trackers installed in those vehicles. I presume government must ensure that these companies have sattelite links intead of mobile phone links. But the government our is facing a moral and financial Tsunami. Not geared for this.
