    Default Toyota Corolla Theft Question/Suggestions?

    AOA

My brother's Corolla GLi was stolen 3 days ago right from the safety of his home. Ever since I have been thinking about making the Corolla invincible :(

I think most of you know how a Corolla is stolen but for those of you who do not know how it is done, here is a video:

    Corolla Theft

I have questions about each and every step of the robbery process.

    Bonnet:
    1. Can we change the position of the Bonnet wire?
    2. Can we somehow change the way bonnet is opened?
    3. Can we trigger an Alarm as soon as the bonnet is opened?

    Alarm:
    4. Can we change the position on the Alarm speaker?
    5. Can we provide power to the Alarm from another power source? (spare battery in the trunk?)

    Triangle Glass:
    6. Can we remove the Triangle glass portion?
    7. Can we change the glass to some metal so that it does not break?
    8. Can we install a Grill inside the triangle to prevent the thief from using his hand to open the locks?
    9. Which glass will they break if there is no triangle?
Toyota Corolla Theft Question/Suggestions? - triangle

    Locks:
    10. Can we change the position of the inside door locks so that the hand of thief cannot reach them? (just the locks, not the opening mechanism)
    11. Can we simply disable these locks so that they can only be opened using the remote or key?

Toyota Corolla Theft Question/Suggestions? - lock

    Jammer:
    12. If we disable the cigarette lighter port so that thief cannot plug the jammer in it?
    13. Does the Jammer work for Satellite trackers?

    Immobilizer:
    14. Can we install an immobilizer in a Corolla? (transponder key)

Kindly answer these questions and let me know which ones of these solutions are possible and practical and can contribute towards making the Corolla safer.

Very good effort and informative thread, i liked may be iam corolla owner, any how its difficult to defead these car lifters, I think a good lock under the steering cross will help a bit, and never park car in any unsafe place.

Look, we have to understand why local made Corolla a red hot target here, simply because of its exponential demand. If any other make had the same demand, it would suffer the same circumstances. And by the way there are other makes also getting stolen but we hardly get to hear about them.

North America, specially Canada epecially has a much bigger underground market for high end cars. There Mercs and Ferreri's are scopped up like Corolla's here. Watch this Video:
    Masterminds - Hot Wheels (1 of 3) - YouTube

Higher end makes come with much more sophisticated tracking systems, but there is always a way around it.

It simply comes down to few simple precautions.

1)Try to keep cars (specially newer ones) inside premises. But thats just a start, and have seen even that dosent work. Remove any key component from the car without which the car cant start (Simple Old fashioned way)
Street parking is a just inviting the crime.

    2) Always use the steering lock of your car, you will be surprized how effective it can be.

    3) Use multiple locking system to give extra protection, hidden switches would add on an extra layer of protection.

Welcome to add on more suggestions here,

Finally remember any and every defence mechanism would be broken sooner or later, but your aim should be to fustrate the thief and hope taking longer time triggers a panic and fustrates him enough so he leaves your vehicle.

Regarding triggering of alarm at the time of opening the bonnet you can do it. Its already in my car which is Corolla 2007 Executive, (known as Corolla X in Pakistan), from factory....

For the locks, I think you can remove them, means black highlighted area only plastic not complete locking mechanism.

I dont remember while some times a ago I read about installing of immobilizer in non immobilizer car.

I think thats an excellent suggestion, but the only worry is that every cat and dog passing by would trigger it. By streeing lock I mean the "built in" locking system that comes in every car. Like I said, it would hardly work, but your aim should be to waste as much time as possible to create a panic situation.

Security Alarm works when the driver side is opened. All four doors should be connected to the alarm. The door sensor which triggers the alarm can be installed in the bonnet too. So if the bonnet is opened, the alarm will trigger.
Moreover, I would suggest to remove the cigarette lighter as some Jammers are powered from cigarette lighter socket.

I have came through so many incidents where cars have been stolen even with Trackers, Anti Theft Clutch bars, security systems, crook locks, steering lock etc. These morons can bypass all this security measures.

Rather than going for these technical security measures which can be easily bypassed we should go for something different.

First of all we should make it a habit not to leave the car unattended. In an unavoidable situation park the car in a place from where you can easily see it. Lock the car properly i-e Steering Lock, Crook Lock, Clutch bar etc. These things do not 100% security, but ur car will not look like an easy target to the thief. He would probably find some other car. Even if he still goes for ur car, the locks will make him panic a bit and the thief will require more time.

In home, try not to leave any space from where the thief could jump in. Normally some space is available above the main gate from where the thief can jump in. This passage should be blocked by Installing grills. Try to have atleast 02 locks on the main gate. It will add to the worries of the thief if he tries to break it.

CCTV camera can be installed in the garage or outside the home. You are not supposed to be infront of CCTV 24 Hrs, but atleast the thief will be a bit hesitant to target your home.

For cars like Mehran, Khyber, Cultus, Margalla etc you can remove the distributor cable of the car and take it with you. You can also remove some fuses which are responsible for ignition.

I would also advise a chor switch, not like the ordinary ones which can easily be tracked and bypassed. You can install a chor switch which are hard to track. You can install a switch with Fuel Pump, which will not provide fuel to the car to get it started. Another switch can be installed with Crank Shaft sensor, like in Vitz, Corolla etc.

Last but not least, every night before going to bed check the main gate locks and make sure the car is properly locked. Read Ayat al Kursi by looking at your car and door and only then go to sleep.
Tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe and he'll believe you. Tell him a seat has wet paint on it and he'll have to touch it to be sure.
