Join Hands with IJC in helping the swat affectees -586994

Islamabad Jeep Club (IJC) is a well established group of diverse individuals around the areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Along with our passion for 4x4 entertainment, the group is equally enthusiastic about lending a helping hand to our brothers and sisters who have become homeless, helpless and hungry. Agony & pain with our displaced brothers from SWAT, Dir and other affected areas puts an obligation on our shoulders to step forward and extend our hands to the needy.
IJC has planned to provide support to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). For this noble cause, we have already generated a pool for the contribution that has initially been replenished by IJC members. We invite all our friends, Pakwheelers and persons from all walks of life to step ahead for the donations. We assure you that each penny would be spent through best possible means for this noble cause. We also welcome services of professionals like doctors who are willing to serve. May Allah be with us.

    UPDATE 22 May 2009 1200hrs

22 day old baby boy who was forced out of the incubator

    Ehsan Kiani :

I have never been more saddened in my life. I feel like bursting out in tears but I can't. I just visited a school to see a 22 day old baby boy who was forced out of the incubator, only a few days old then, because of the taliban issue in Mingora. he is suffering from, in all probability, VSD (what is generally called 'hole in the heart') along with failure to thrive (extreme weakness with very little or no weight gain since birth and poor feeding). IJC has taken over all the expenses that will come for her treatment in AFIC rawalpindi. He is here in pindi. Will update on the diagnoses and details as soon as I get it.

    Shabab :

This is the IJC group email, which i am making it public without the concent of the author, not to show people what we are doing, but to show every one that things are very serious with swat effecties, and people do need our help, every penny, every little thing counts after all they are our Pakistani brothers & sisters. I hope Doc you dont mind me making your email public, its all for a good cause. I appeal to all the people to come forward and help our fellow country man/woman in what ever way you can.

    UPDATE 19 May 2009 1300hrs

    PROJECT HATHIYAN TRIP 1 REPORT

    UPDATE 18 May 2009 0900hrs

MIR1 WROTE: PICTURES - My aim is to try and make awareness about the situation in those villages... No amount of words or pictures can do justice to what those guys are going through...but im still going to try Inshallah..

    UPDATE 17 May 2009 0900hrs

PROJECT HATHIAN - A helping hand from IJC and Friends

    UPDATE 15 May 2009 0200hrs

    What is required now...
01 - More food stuff to keep the kitchen running. An estimated Rs. 25000 - 30000 will run the kitchen for one day. And this just for 900 people. There are thousands more just in the neighborhood literally.
02 - A medical camp and medicines: I already have secured 3-4 doctors including myself who have agreed to work there on Sunday. I have already mentioned some medicines above. There is a dire need for lady doctors as the women observe strict parda. Also. A few women are expecting as well.
03 - Bedding.. One set containing a tallai (mattress), sheet and a pillow is available at a wholesale price of Rs. 600 at Nankari Bazar Rawalpindi. We still have 900 people without any mattress just in this premises. 8-10K in just this union council .
04 - Morale.. We need to talk to them and play with there children. Tell them they are not alone. They have hosted us several times when we were young in the beautiful valley of Swat that is their home. Now its our time to make them feel comfortable.. Make them feel at home.. The trauma that they have gone through and are still going through is phenomenal .
05 - Volunteers to help. In administration, distribution, medical camps etc..
06 - Funds and fund generators. Lets spread the word around.
07 - Kitchen utensils like plates, glasses and cooking pots etc. IJC dontated 200 plates but we need more.
08 - Water storage. Buckets, Lotas, etc. Water coolers.
09 - Mosquito repellants. Mosquito nets.
10- Baby diapers, Baby milk. Baby food
    11 - Tents...
I may have missed a lot here and I will keep adding to this list from time to time.
Urgency..... Dont do this today... Lets do this ..Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have.. Any suggestions that you may have..
The contact numbers above are live.. You may call anyone regarding anything to do with Project Hathian..
    Thank yo u
    Dr. Ehsan Masud Kiani
    General Secretary IJC.

    UPDATE 14 May 2009 1800hrs

By the grace of God we will be crossing over 2 lac rupees as on tonight since tuesday this week-
Dear All - As informed earlier that one of our fellows has already left for Hathian with 3 shehzores full of relief goods. The details will soon be uploaded on this forum. We shall also have the current requirement of items by tonight as the man returns from Hathian. It would also be uploaded.
One thing we intend to make clear is that we do not accept used clothing, used bedding etc. We have had observed during the 2005 earthquake that most of the used clothing, bedding etc was eventually trashed and did no use. We trust that you better understand our point .

    From Ehsan bhai:

    "
@Untame. No issues Shabab bhai. . It was just something I wanted to shae with you. Its upto you if you share it with anyone else.
The good news is that the baby is here and was checkef by a senior cardiologist. He does not have any hole in the heart. But he needs to stay in a hospital for a few days to improve his health and avoid any life threatening infections. Trying to shift him to Holy Family Hospital or PIMS. Any contacts in the paeds section of these would be very helpful. Also. We will need a volunteer or two who can follow up on him at the hospital as well
    Thank you

Just got a hold of an internet connection. Thank you Mir1 for the post.. I want to emphasize this point so I will put it in bold..

We need a volunteer or two who can manage the baby and handle the issue. All finances will be paid for by the contributors of "Project Hathian" of which IJC is one. We are trying to put him in PIMS but if that does not work out we will get him checked in Holy Family

Please reply here and PM me your mobile number so I can hook up with anyone who steps up..

On my way back from the motorway, I know where to start today’s report. I am compelled to start from the end. I have never been more saddened in my life than now. I feel like busting out with tears but I can’t. Just an hour ago I was asked to visit a school where there was a 22 day old, unwell baby. What I saw and heard was devastating. This small baby was extremely weak. He was not feeding well and did not seem to have gained any weight since birth (something well known as “Failure to Thrive). The baby had frequent episodes of what the parents described as “dauray” or attacks during which the baby’s feet and hands would become blue and he would have some kind of fit as well. This would usually occur during sleep. There was a history of late cry after birth which means that the baby’s brain also may have suffered damage early after birth because he did not breathe initially. Doctors who had seen the baby in Mingora hospital suspected that the baby has a “hole in the heart” (something called the Ventricular Septal Defect in medical terms). All this is something that we do see now and then as doctors. But what was shocking and devastating was the fact that the baby had to be moved out of the incubator where he was after birth because the parents had to migrate in a hurry lest they miss the curfew relaxation. Obviously the baby boy got no treatment after that. We (Project Hathian) took charge of all the expenses that will be required for treatment of this baby. He, along with his parents, will shift to Rawalpindi early tomorrow morning where he will be assessed and treated by the best doctors available. Please pray for the baby as he is in a very serious condition.

I apologize. I could not help but start with this baby’s story as that has touched me deep and that represents a classical example of what the IDPs are going through. I wonder how many other such babies are out there….

Moving on. Today’s mission was to start implementation of a basic distribution plan that was devised for this place. In essence, the IDPs living in houses would be issued a ration card for each family. This ration card, which was already printed, has some basic details about the family that it will represent and also an empty table where the donations to the family will be listed along with the dates. This would help to centralize the distribution to one warehouse where every card holder will come and pick up supplies. This system will also ensure a more transparent and affective way of recording

and subsequent reporting of the distribution. This will, it is hoped, allow us to easily distribute to a much larger number of IDPs in the area.

We were joined up today by two young volunteers Waqas and Ali who are given the duty to issue the ration cards by going door to door. Its worth mentioning and appreciating here that these two young gentlemen will stay overnight and work tomorrow as well. We first went to all known widows and orphan children and issued card to them on a preferential basis. In the next phase, which already was underway when I left for Rawalpindi, the rest of the available ration cards were being issued to the IDPs. We only have about 400 sets of ration available with us right now so we decided to issue only 400 cards.

The IDPs living in some 7 schools are already being given two cooked meals a day from the Lungar (makeshift kitchen) in the main school building. We are currently feeding over 2500 people from this lungar each day Mashaallah

We arranged 3 trucks full of goods for today’s trip. We bought the following items that were necessary for the sustenance of these people.

400 odd sets are being made from the goods above each containing essential items to last at least a week or so. A proposal for a one window system is under consideration in which an entry in the ration card will be made at the window and the goods will be handed over to the IDP.

We hope that we are able to set down a system which sustains an easy, affective and transparent distribution mechanism for a larger population of IDPs.

    Thank you
