My friend, what happened to the original engine ? Is the Mazda engine's weight - power ratio compatible ??

I have known Sportage to house Hilux engine, mileage was pretty fine and so was the performance.

What you need to do is have a compression test done and see how good your engine is. Mazda 2200 is from the Mazda van or the double cabin they have ? Its more of a torque-y engine than speedy one.

My cousin has had the 2 versions of the sportages & has taken the Grand from Karachi all the way to Naran loaded with supplies after the Oct 05 earthquake. Went and came back fine.

Also you need to ensure that the tires are not too big, that will have an impact on ride quality, mileage and pick ........ in the long run your suspension & steering box.

the original engine in sportage 2000-03 model is a copyright model of Mazda b2000 series. B2200 is the newer model and slightly more powerful.

Now for improving power do the fol

    1. Service the pump and injectors for optimum performance.

    2. Change the stock fan with a powerful electric fan (Italian SPAL fans are best)

    3. use 32 pounds instead of 28 pounds of air ( 215/80R15 size)

    4. Put in a voltage Stabilizer

    5. Put in a seperate Oil separator

    6. Installed a seperate Fan in intercooler duct

    7. Always use good Synthetic Engine oil (replace at 2000-3000 km)

    8. Use STP injector cleaner and Engine oil Additive on every oil change

for turning it into a beast i agree with @REDZDEVIL

Hello everyone that's quite useful information here - I also have a 2002 sportage and wanted to know a few things about maintenance. Sorry about my limited knowledge but i am not very experienced. Which oil is the best? and what about oil filters? There are two oil filters available, should both be replaced on engine oil change? Can someone provide a timetable/schedule sort of thing containing maintenance tasks and their frequnecy please? for example, engine oil should be changed every 2000-3000 kms. Many THanks in advance!

if everything is OK with the engine and you still need a big boost then go for LPG diesel fumigation kit which acts like a constant NOS to diesel engine with improved fuel economy also.
To all the extreme drivers, please come offroad like ME to keep others safe on the roads.

What's this LPG fumigation kit? Never heard of the concept before, but then, I know nothing about diesels. Interesting though.
