    Default toyota BJ70 to KZJ70

    i bought a BJ70 with original 3B engine with a plan to swap it for a 1KZ

    the guy at the workshop insists to overhaul the current 3B instead of going for a 1KZ as according to him i would have to change the front & back "differential" or "hissa" too in order to make it compatible with a 1KZ.

    Has anyone done this before??

    Is the guy right or just robbing me coz in simple engine swap i wud be paying him 8000 but the overhaul would get him some 45000.

    Thanks!

    AOA,

    Dear TurboTanga,

    B3 is a very good engine to start with and 45k for the overhauling seems about right.

    Lets say that you opt for the converson to 1KZ-T here is an estimate.

    Engine + Gearbox=125k min

    Diffs=35k

    Engine Computer=10k

    Installation Charges=15k

    TOTAL= 185k

    All of this and your fuel average will be almost the same, your vehicle will lose originality and price might not appreciate rather it might endup having a lower market value.

    Only the pick will increase as torque of B3 is nearly the same as that of 1KZ-T

    So my friend if you are a great fan of 1KZ-T sell your BJ-70 and put extra money to buy an early 1990's model 3 door prado.

    Dear Turbotanga,

    I have a BJ74 fiber top with 13B-T engine and it is slightly more powerful than the 3B engine.

    Swapping the gearbox to a 5-speed one might set you back by roughly 30k.

    Swapping the engine would be a waste of money.

    Dear Turbotanga,

    The wiring should be neat and as original as possible so that you have no starting problems rest all is pretty routine. Mostly BJ70 come in 24V DC wiring with two batteries and most electricians and battery wallas shy away from it. Hopw yours is 12V.

    Bro dont even think of swapping kz into a bj . i have experience of it. let alone the electrical problems, u will have to change alot of things . also do u know the 3b is way lot havier than 1kz ? ur car will be out of balance. I swapped 1kz in mine and am now thinking of swapping 15bt , its still in workshop. RIPbj

    well 13bt is better built as compared to 1kz which is a budget engine. 13bt wont break easily but 1kz will. also the fuel consumption of 1kz is alot more. i remember my 13bt did 8 avg with ac. and my 1kzte (with elect throttle) does 5.5 max when carefully driven with ac. only problem with 13bt is its alot noisier plus its an old engine so the parts can be sometimes a problem. best of luck

    Thanks saad and everyone for the valuable comments, my 3B is already out for overhaul.

    @ Saad!! 13BT would have been great kho the cheapest one I could find was for 200K at “shooba”
