Default Mitsubishi Pajero Or Kia Sportage

    Dear All,

    Refernce to my previous thread

    https://www.pakwheels.com/forumreply_az_TopicID!114914~ForumID!16~pw.html

Please note that I am very much confused. I need expert’s advice on the below mentioned concerns:

I need a SUV to fulfill the following demands with a max range 600k also keep in view that I will posted in Gujrat & spare /mechanic availability.

    Utilization of the SUV:

1-I need a family car for 4 adults & two kids.

2-In season I will go for hunting like Teetar or duck shoots.

3-In summer I use to go to Northern Areas Like, Naran, Babu Sir Pass or Skardu Deo Sai etc.

4-Bein posted in Gujrat I will visit to Islamabad & Lahore at least once a month to visit my parents & In laws. More over few rough terrains to visit my clients in rural area.

5-I got a 50 Hp Fiber glass motor boat which is 14 ft long & weights equal to a Suzuki Meharn.I also have to pull her behind that SUV for Suck shootings & water sports purpose.

Now coming to the point few people suggest me Mitsubishi Pajero (5 Door) Model either exceed or simple turbo wagon. There is a problem. All the Pajero's I saw are body change mostly with lots of suspicious about their chassis punching.

More over Pajero's are heavy on fuel.I am entitled for 250 Liter Diesel a month from my bank. If it crosses the limit rest will be from my pocket.

Advantages of Pajero is that ist a big SUV with all necessary luxury like A/c, Power steering & breaks, Sun Roof & its 8 seater.

Now for Sporatge its up model in low price. Comfortable or not I have no previous experience. But heard that its engine is not reliable. I saw few people swap original Kia Sportage engines with Toyota 3c Turbo Diesel.

You can also suggest me any other vehical other than above two keeping in mind I am posted as a Branch manager in Gujrat so please also keep in view that SUV will be respectable as well as presentable.

My previous experience in 4x4 are Willys Mb, Willys M-38, Cj-5 (wrangler Shape), Daihatsu Rocky (3 Door).Mean to say I have previous experince of Jeeping but now I need a SUV not a hard core four wheeler as utilization is already mentioned above.

    Please reply on your earliest.

    Regards,

    Fahad

KIA sportage is really a SICK Suv
I used to have both Intercooler and Sportage at a time.

    Kia sportage:
Underpowered. 5 seater. non-availability of parts. Worst shocks i have ever seen in any car/suv.,Ur kids will be having JHOOLAY for free. No pleasure of Drive.

    Pajero:

Powerful. 7 seater. Easy availability of Parts. Pleasure of Drive. Good for offroading. Much better shocks and brakes. I love it's soft Gears and Steering.

And one more thing i m not sure will get a nice 5 Door pajero for 600k. I thnk 2800cc is above 800k nowadays.

At the risk of sounding biased, I'll say this. The Sportage was developed during the time when Kia was producing the Classic and the Pride. The Pajero has always had more development thrown into it. This means that in general, it will be better all around as a vehicle, be it off-road or on-road.

It was also aimed at a much higher market slot, Discovery, Trooper, Land Cruiser, Patrol etc. Unlike the Kia, which was aimed much much lower. It was relativerly inexpensive new, and buying a used one won't give you a lot of value.

Fuel consumption is a bit of a gray area. I have achieved, in average, 7.5km/litre to 11 km/litre with mine (3-dr 1st gen 4D56 non-turbo) depending on how I drive. My father usually stays between 11 and 13. This is all city driving in Rawalpinid and Islamabad by the way, which is relatively fast flowing traffic. So it depends on how you drive. Drive gently, change gears at low rpm, and you'll get great mileage. If someone says that you'll get 7, I think stretching it to 10 or more shouldn't be a problem at all in daily driving situations. And if you think that's boring, well, it's your diesel, you use it how you want to...

Other than that, you seem to have all the bases covered. Good luck with your decision!

Pajero would be the wisest choice, and frankly i think the sportage is gook trash, an utterly awfull vehicle, an embarrsement to for it being a 4x4.

i'd suggest you go for a pajero if this is your only option.

i think if u can increase ur budget a little bit then go for 1992 1993 PRADO LAND CRUISER 2 the 1 in 5 door dont go for recondition 1 it'll cost u alot if u can get the 1 standared model or recondition in year 1996 1997 with 2L Turbo engine or if someone swap it to 1KZ it's the good option or otherwise go for MMC pajero 1991 1992 model the 1 in low roof

i will say one thing, please do not buy sportage. I have no experience of Pajero but we used to have kia sportage. My father bought it brand new and he is very careful with cars but still after one year he wanted to burn it. Every part of it would make noise specially the rear seats and the back hatch. The ground clearance is very bad as far as i can remember. I would say buy a pajero if you can find a good one but avoid sportage please.

How much would a PRADO/Cruiser II 90-95 5dr would cost? Are there any other options? In this case I would have preffered to keep a willy for adventure & a large sedan for normal use & trip to Isloo.

    Pajero is the best option.
We've owned one for the last twenty years and is still in great shape!
You'll get a Japanese model Turbo Wagon LWB with a 4D56 Turbo for around 5-5 and a half in good condition. The same you may also get around 4 or even less but it would need some major restoration. The market for these cars unfortunately is slow and cheap. Parts are cheap and easily available both new and second hand. If you go for the English model (Exceed) in the same shape, you may even find a reconditioned one with a 4D56 Ti engine for something around 6 and a half.
As far as Prado is concerned, 92-93 (dabba shape) with a 2L engine costs around 9-10 and the same with a 1kz costs around 11-12. But maintenance cost is twice as much as that of a Pajero. I've kept both, and in my opinion Pajero is far far better.

Without going through the thread I'd say you got max votes for Pajero. So my vote is for a Pajero.

Sportage is a 'shosha'. Two runs from Karachi to Balakot & that was it for the engine, and this is the Grand Sportage I'm talking about + the Sportage has no pulling power for your water craft.

Having been through the whole thread, I think you may have a perfect match for your needs with a Pajero.
