    Call Mujahid Zafar at 0300 8455563.....he did his BJ a couple of years ago( nicknamed 'BIGFOOT'). I am positive his knowledge about the subject would be hard to supercede!!! Unfortunately I do not have a solo pic of his ride but have him on a group shot at BABUSAR this summer. For greater details you could visit our club website www.orad.org.pk......!!!!

    Nice Ride Brother. Congrats. BJ 60/62 are my all time favorites, though I never owned one.

    First of all U mentioned the engine swap from 3B to 13BT. I will advise that; though I personaly think that 3B is a tank of an engine but incase U want to upgrade it for the sake of Power I will strongly advise to go for TOYOTA 1HD. For big Cruisers it is the best engine(I Think).
    There is a preception that a 4 liter 6 Cylinder engine is heavy on Fuel which is completly rong. 3B, 13BT and 1HD will give U the same Millage. The difference will come when U change the Oil. 1HD will take 2 liters of More Oil then a 3B. Dont know bout the 13BT. But trust me nothing Beats a 6 Cylinders grunt and torque. 1HD sounds so sweet when it running Wooooooooooohhhhhhh.
    Anyways the desions is urz.

    And now a personal qestion. How much did this rig cost U.(Never mind if U dont want to Answer)

    Just drive safe and enjoy ur Life wid a Cruiser.

    @hsumbal1,

    Is the upgrade from 3B to 1HD a simple one? What are the complications, if any. Plus, is 1HD 4 speed or 5 speed, and do we need to change the transmission as well?

    Also, please advise the costs involved, swapping a 3B with a 1HD.

    I hve certain reasons to go for 13 BT. first its cheaper than 1HD, secondly, you don't have to change engine mountings. it fits on the same mounting. thridly, It has a perfect match with existing gearbox and differentials and last but not least, overhauling cost is cheap.

    I purchased this 360 K and it will cost another 360 by end of the day.

    Taimur BJ 60's Transmission(Which is 4speed Unit Mostly) can be fitted to a 1HD. But normally when you buy a 1HD U get it wid an Auto trany. Now it is a proven fact that 4X4s with Autos work very well offroad even better than Manuals(according to the survey run by BBC's Top Gear) but they can be heavy on Fuel in the Urban conditions. On highway there is not much of a difference. What U can do is that U can get the job done in Phases. Get the 1HD fitted to ur standard BJ60 transmission and after some time get an original 5 speed box from Peshawar.(If there is a Finacial Costraint) Otherwise go for the Conversion straight away.

    As U must be know that HJ62 comes with a 2H(Diesel) and FJ62 comes wid a 3F(Petrol) both are six cylinder Units so there is no problem in terms of Space under the hood. As far as the Frame/Chasis is concernd there is no issue Land Cruisers are over engineered Machines, they take conversions in a stride. And in this perticular case we are not talking bout a major conversion it is not an issue at all.

    But trust me you will have to use a 1HD 6cyl unit to know the difference between a 4cyl Unit and a 6Cyl Unit.

    I don't have any experience with 1 HD but one of my friend owns HJ with 12 H turbo. no doubt its a very high speed and excellent engine but too heavy on fuel.

    You have a point but it isnt a big issue.

    Yes a 1HD will cost more but U need not to worry bout the Overhauling for 200,000 Km if U get a clean Unit.

    @I_M_I_2

    A Good 1HD will cost U around 175K to 190K

    U can get an average Unit around 130K(Not advisable)

    I have few questions against the above debate.

    1. What mileage a 13BT and a 12HT will give on long if they are on manual gears?

    2. What is the maximium speed on which a 1HD can travel on motor way?, a 13BT reaches comfortably around 130 to 135 which is more than enough for a leaf spring jeep.

    3. What mileage a 1HD will give with the automatic gear on motorway?

    3B and 13BT come from a similar Origin. 3B is followed by B & 2B
    B was developed by Toyota and Hino in Clolaboration for Light Trucks. Later 3B was completly taken over by Toyota. It is bacically an upgrade of aB. It appeared in BJ 40 in early 80s maybe 80 or 81 not sure though. 3B hits the red line at around 4000 RPM. It is extremly good for BJ40/45, coz it delivers torque in abundance at low RPM. But with a Land Cruiser 60/62 it is preferable to have a 2H or a 1HD preferbly wid Land Cruiser 80/100 Diffs/Axles.

    I dont know how fast a 60 or 62 sieres Cruiser will go wid a 3B or 13BT but for sure wid the 1HD setup of trany and diffs it will crack 160 easily coz I have actually seen it being done.

    13BT 14BT & 15BT according to my knowledge(which can be wrong) can be found only in Causters(light Buses) and Light Toyota trucks, so they are slow reving engines, but they have Power.
