Default Pajero or Prado--which one is better(Experts Plzz)

For a change my fellow pakwheelers... lets get out of corolla civic wars and put our views to finalise which of these (Prado or Pajero) is the best!!! As nowadays many are opting 4x4 SUVs ....

Why from 1986-1992 Pajero was the hot favorite and now the Prado... I guess both are arch rivals if given chance to
tested against each other... which one do you pick???
keep all the factors in view -- the off roading capabilities... economy... luxury and accessories... price and maintainence and all round performance..

Here are some videos to make a view of both...

Looks like Pajeros are leading the polls so far. But Mitsu-Man's votes don't count of course.

Well, for the same reason Nissan and Mazda don't enjoy any market share, but Toyota and Honda do. Lack of spare parts, mechanics, overall dealer support etc.

Go through my "What's new///What's hot..... " thread , where i've posted pics of both the Prado and the Pajero(marketed as Montero in India). If not, take my word for it. Buy the Pajero.

Having driven an old LC 70 3 door with a 2LT and having a 3-Dr first gen in the family, I'd probably go for the Mitsu (my brother disagrees though). Reasons being:

    1. More space in the Pajero
    2. Fuel consumption is lower for the Pajero
    3. Can't compare the suspension as the LC's shocks were knackered
    4. The LC was noisier inside as well
    5. As for off road performance, the Pajero's only "limitation" is the IFS, which if you plan carefully, hasn't ever posed a problem for us. It will only rear its head when you're trying to twist you axles into spaghetti. Plan carefully before going into rough patch. Use less testosterone and more brains.

As a side-note, for competition purposes, if I were making a full rock-crawling rig, I'd take a Prado for its live axles and wider engine range. If I were making a desert racer, I'd take the Pajero, its track record at Dakar is proof enough.

    For Highways and Inter-city.

Pajero is better in-terms of comfort and overall driving pleasure. Prado is not as comfortable as a Pajero.

    For Offroading.

Prado all the way, it offers all the necessary power, ground clearance, body width, much more robust then the Pajero.

Pajero is more of a soft-roader like on side-tracks of a farm or a road. But in-terms of pure offroad terrain it fails.

    Spare Parts/Support

Spare Parts of Prado are readily available in Used/Kabli Markets. Both new and old parts are comparatively cheaper then that of Pajero.

Pajero's Engine is more responsive then that of Prado but doesn't offer same level of reliability and robustness.

I have a friend in the UAE who has the official contract for the Formula 1 racing boats, specifically for the Victory team. With his new found love for 4x4s, some 4 years ago he opened a pretty nice garage in Dubai specializing in super tuning 4x4s. His words to me only this last week only were that the UAE is LC country, but each and every day, some enthusiasts cannot help but be floored with the new Pajeros, not only in the desert, but also on the rocks of Hatta. . Especially the SWB versions.

I have never driven a newer Prado or Pajero off road, and I don't think a lot of other people have taken these vehicles hardcore off road in Pakistan either, but i have no qualms in stating the Prados are the safer buy, in Pakistan. But for everything that the Prados do well, I would still choose the newer Pajeros over the newer Prados. They have that certain "thing" going for them all of a sudden, just so sexy. And because I don't have the pocket to keep a Pajero or Prado as an offroad only vehicle, for everyday driving, with the exceptional weekends off the tarmac, I would choose a Pajero even though it might not be the sensible thing to do in Pakistan.
