    Default Pajero or Prado--which one is better(Experts Plzz)

    For a change my fellow pakwheelers... lets get out of corolla civic wars and put our views to finalise which of these (Prado or Pajero) is the best!!! As nowadays many are opting 4x4 SUVs ....


    Why from 1986-1992 Pajero was the hot favorite and now the Prado... I guess both are arch rivals if given chance to
    tested against each other... which one do you pick???
    keep all the factors in view -- the off roading capabilities... economy... luxury and accessories... price and maintainence and all round performance..

    every product in the market is introduced with its some unique selling point.. and so does the prado and pajero...

    they were in the same market segment until 2002 when toyota introduced LC 120... from there onwards pajero coudnt coupe up with the pace and Prado progressed to an upper superior market segment... now as it costs high so its quality is high.. no comparision --

    this thread is posted by me... and so far its quite an information about both products to read this -- and its getting even more informative highlighting the various concepts n features of an adored off roader..

    keep it up all..
    I intended to buy the pajero iv in 2009 when i was in dubai... but since i am back to Pak.. contended on my Lc 120 so far and the terios kid..

    I don’t remember what they did with the 1KD oil pan but for 3rd Gen 1KZ what they did was to replace it with the one that came originally with my car (1KZT). About power gain, It had improved low end torque and the overall gain felt like 30 percent. It is smoother, less noisy and very responsive, thanks to the electronic throttle control and better electronics.<o:p></o:p>

    I first ran the car with manual transmission for about a month or so (mated to 3rd gen 1KZ) and once while rough shifting to second, it crushed the differential teeth into pieces. I bet a normal 1KZ can’t do that. <o:p></o:p>

    For swapping I don’t know what your target it but if you want to choose in-between 1KZ and 1KD, I’ll say go for 1KZTE 3rd gen, fit water to air intercooler if available and raise some boost and fuel but remember to fit EGT gauge so that you don’t melt the internals.<o:p></o:p>

    Guess I have been sleeping on this thread but that does wake me up....Just help me out a bit here guys: exactly which vehicle and what engine mod is being referred to here?

    This is the first I've ever heard of broken teeth on a diff, always imagined that the axle would be the first to go with more power. And 30% hardly seems enough power to break the teeth on a diff unless I am missing something

    @RaoHamid:
    Your comments and arguments have a lot of weight, and make sence too. I rememebr driving my first Pajero in 1986 three door, back then we had very few choices other than Pajero. Since then I have had different Pajeros on and off. I like them a lot, but ever since I started using the Toyota brand in SUV's I have observed a marked difference in relaiability and durability, unmatched by Pajero. I think you are correct in your point of view and your knowoledge of Suvs and your approach has atleast won my support for the Totota.

    Seemed like the patrol was hitting the speed and/or rev limiter and slowing down..
