    Default Pajero or Prado--which one is better(Experts Plzz)

    For a change my fellow pakwheelers... lets get out of corolla civic wars and put our views to finalise which of these (Prado or Pajero) is the best!!! As nowadays many are opting 4x4 SUVs ....

    Why from 1986-1992 Pajero was the hot favorite and now the Prado... I guess both are arch rivals if given chance to
    tested against each other... which one do you pick???
    keep all the factors in view -- the off roading capabilities... economy... luxury and accessories... price and maintainence and all round performance..

    Here are some videos to make a view of both...

    Sami, Bro I never said that but LX470 is much more luxury oriented than a proper hardcore offroader in my opinion.

    Mitsu,

    If you like Mitsubishi Pajeros over land cruisers so no big deal as eyeryone has his own choice. Enjoy the powaaaaa

    Well, if you're looking for looks, and "luxury" only, what's the problem with an X5, Cayenne, Q7 or Escalade? IMHO scratching off the LX470 as a luxury SUV is a disservice. If you don't go for the bodykit, and you have off-road tyres, it's good enough to dance with the best in the rough. Besides, good 4x4s are light and have small engines without an overdose of power.

    That's very nice looking ride, is that a LJ70? What's the engine on it? Would love to see your ride at 4x4 Engaged events in Lahore. What type of offroading do you typically do?

However, things won't be that gloomy on the M'way since it'll rev happily at 2800 fetching you 120 kms/hr and the average is likely to fare better!!! One Q, what tyre size you are runnin'?( you did mention that it was set low?). The OEM is 31 x 10.50 x 15 or 265/70/15.....unless you have 16'' rims as they come in standard in some models with the flared fenders on '98. The 31x10.50 are ones I prefer as they make it stand reasonably taller than the 265s. Anything bigger, or rims with offsets, would set you off a couple of hundred bucks on each fill and would compromise the handling. Yes, it is easier to get lift from those torsion bars in minutes but for the rear, a set of coils from KINGS, ARB or OLDMAN EMU would do the trick( ofcourse with added stiffness and at the cost of that comfy ride....that susp adjuster does help if it works on yours...USE IT). The MK 2 3 dr you are eyeing would make a perfect pair.....I've both and trust me once you start using it you'll never drive the LWB....( the LWB with me is only used for school and wife chores).....the SWB is one zippy/gruntier car and you'll find yourself falling in love with it in no time!!!( Did you talk to Mr. Baig?????)

    Hi Mitsu, thanks for getting back to me on this one.

    I have just changed the tires to 31x10.50x15s. I wish I had 33s though! I am averaging the average I think then.

    So if I upgrade the rear coils, I should also be looking at upgrading the rear shocks to handle the extra articulation. I also read that the IFS should not be lifted more than 1.5-2 inches. I agree, I lifted my RKR an inch or so and immediately felt a difference in ride quality. I can bear with it on the RKR, but not on the Shogun.

    I will be indebted for life if you can help me with a three door. That one, if and when i get one, I will experiment with and definitely raise. I hear you can just swap the SWB rear coils for LWB coils to get some lift with those. I haven't tried calling Mr. Baig, another ORAD member told me the price he was asking for it, and it was way toooooo much, at least for me.

    Thanks again, chief. You should be called MMC or something like that

    The UK model is called a Shogun, there are no Pajeros made for the UK market. As for the options, they are all extras and that would depend on what the original buyer had opted for. Its a tough ask to get one of these in Lahore at least, not sure about Karachi. The shape is pretty rare in Pakistan. Then to ask for the V6 3000cc is even harder. Why not try a smaller 2800CC three door? They look better than the 5 door Shogun I have in my opinion.

    @ raohamid

    thank you for the valuable information

    personally i dont want to go for 2.8 intercooler diesal, as it would be old now. Diesal engine need a lot of maintainence and if not taken care properly they wear off very soon. To find a pajero with a sound diesal engine would be a difficult task.

    My dad had a pajero 1996 he bought it 4000km used and we kept it for 7-8 years before selling it. Did around 100,000 kms on it.

    Is the shogun model available easily? and is it petrol or diesal?

    Shoguns can be petrol or diesel. Don't let the diesel issue burn you out. Sure it asks for more love, but, the ultimate choice is yours. Are you looking at taking the Shogun/Pajero off road? If so, there is a definite advantage with a diesel there. If not, you're probably better off with the low maintenance of a petrol. But, let me warn you, it will be next to impossible finding engine parts for a petrol Pajero in Pakistan.

    You live in Karachi, and Mitsu_Man owns 9 billion Pajeros in Karachi. Perhaps you should get in touch?

    Please read the last three pages of the post. You will find all your requested info. About price, the market is crazy high these days. And most of the cars available are junk, because people don't want to sell a car they know well, and if they do, there is nothing worthy of being bought. Expect to pay 13-15 lakhs in Lahore for a 1998 5-door Shogun. Hope this helps. And since you have experience with a Mitsubishi 4x4, let that drive you best in your hour of decision making.

    I'll keep an eye out for a 2.8 3dr....just give me a cut off on the budget!!!

    @saaduk

    Any decent ones in Pesh that you can recommend RKR???

    @Lordxtacy

    RKR has already been pretty ellaborate! V6s in MK1 MK2 are rare to come by and are mostly body swapped!!! If you can live with that, then, probably you are likely to be able to lay your hands on one. MK3 GDIs were imported as JDMs in both 3n5drs but are scarce.....probably a couple in kci,lhr or isloo ranging anything between 20-25!!!
