Default Help me buy my first 4x4

    Dear All

I intend to buy my first 4x4 and will appreciate the help from seasoned and professional enthusiats on this forum.

I am currently looking to buy either of the following

    1. 3 Door Pajero model between 90-95, or

    2. 3 Door Land cruiser model 90-94, or

    3. Double cabin Toyota model 90-93

Can some one let me know which is the best match for power, comfort, performance and lesser trouble, if I intend to use the car mostly off-road (hunting or desert roaming etc) and mountains .

I will further appreciate if some one can give me a lead on where to find good vehicle and cost estimates.

    Thank you all.

I have seen few 3dr 90 pajeros in one of the event held near Karachi, they looked cool, not sure about the performance. What’s your budget, this will help in exploring the options?

spanCalibri","sans-serif";"As far as performance is concerned, I have seen Pajero Mini is a great performer too, it is comfortable, can be used as a daily driver & it will have lesser troubles (if u get one with low mileage). You can browse the recent IJC threads to see the photos.

I have so specific budget in mind that's why i asked for help on cost estimates as well. As this is going to be my first 4x4 I don't want bad experience to be associated with it in terms of cost or performance

ok than join the nearest Off-road club around you, meet people who are into this sports & get reviews regarding rides, performancem cost, maintenance etc. see some live performances and then decide.

I've jotted down some of my observations & given them a rating (within the three). Have kept & driven all 3, currently have a 2000 Hilux.

    1. 3 Door Pajero model between 90-95:
Good ride quality, Good looking, high in maintenance. 'Nakhray wali gari'. Very hard to find a good genuine piece. Have to pay the price for it then. 7/10

    2. 3 Door Land cruiser model 90-94:
Ideal, rugged, easily and widely available parts & accessories. Simple mechanics. Good off-roader.
    Drawback.
There's a huge quantity of Non-Custom Paid (NCP) vehicles in the market. Be very very careful when going for one, go for the acid test if you have to. 10/10

    3. Double cabin Toyota model 90-93:
Leaf spring, bouncy ride, uncomfortable for back seat rider. Toyota Toyota hai, extremely rugged and poweful. Large space.

Thank U for your kind words spanCalibri","sans-serif";" accord7362
spanCalibri","sans-serif"; font-weight: normal;", but let me clarify, masters of this 4x4 are reading this quietly, I am just
    spanCalibri","sans-serif";"
    a learner.

    Everyone
who wants to own a 4x4 should witness what this really is & are

they really serious about it, there are many off-roaders end up either parked outside a mechanic or denter or simply wrecked in the garage due to lack of attention & desire to use it (I am referring to shouqeen Mizaaj

    J

) – Restoration is altogether a different side story & this should be attempted if sufficient funds can be spared for the project, ample amount of time for research & search of parts, mechanics

etc. & then maintenance cost, which is obviously a demand of old machine. (But this punga should be taken, at-least once in your life

    J

, since there is no match for the experience)

Keeping in view the terrain around Lahore & witnessing the performances of experts there, I think a smaller, newer & trouble free, light weight Jimny or Mini would be an ideal start for the new entrants. They are less thirsty on the fuel, easier to maintain and can give the same pleasure in a little effort. Yes for hard-core off-road where you expect & ready for dents, a probable roll over, a broken excel or a burst tyre due rocks, go for the bigger machines. I would like to hear on this from the off-roaders around on the forum!
