Saw this in a Bj60 that had auotmatic transmission.

    What engine is this?

    Is it reliable? durable?

What is the consumption with auto transmission?

Is consumption any better with manual transmission?

It's a Toyota 1HD-T turbo diesel engine making around 160bhp. It's a 4.2L 6cyl engine so you can assume how much mileage it'll get you! Can you even get these here in Pakistan???

    Thanks.
Is it a solid reliable engine ? Or a lemon?

Also does not seem to generate much HP given its size. What do you think ?

1HD is the top of the line Toyota diesel that is available, intallable and manageable in Pakistan. Cost was around PKR 250k from what I have been told but I have seen higher figures from users on this forum. A friend has it in a 70 series Toyota Bundero (whacko stuff indeed!!!) and its been running very well. Great thing is that its quite a straight forward bolt in to a variety of Toyota transmisssions including hilux surf and most 60-100 series LCs. From the photo however, my impression was that the engine you saw was actually a 1HZ but in any case here are the comparative specs from my worksheet:

Kiani sahib, thanks for the copmarison. This 1KD engine, seems amazing.. 3000 cc and so much hp + torque.. sure beats the crap out of the bigger older engine.. in terms of sheer perofrmance, not sure about endurance.

So now the question remains it is 1hdt or 1hzt?

The engine is actually the good old 12HT ...supposedly one of the best and most reliable diesel engines Toyota ever made, only drawback is that local availability and parts are a bit on the scarce side but I think are still manageable.

The KDs are very impressive indeed and as someone mentioned earlier, quite the choice esp for rally purposes. Unfortunately, it may be a few years before we can crack the CRD code and find some jugar for the diesel-sulphur issues. Having said that looking at the specs and current diesel costs this may happen sooner than expected.

Pls see 1KD performance discussion link below (surprisingly cannot find much on related discussion on the net) . Apparently its quite a modification friendly unit with impressive results in Thailand: the new home of all if not most Hiluxs - Jalla watan kar dee gayee hai Hilux Japan se....kutch Musharraf jaisa salook kiya gaya lagta hai http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11898

How is 12HT in terms of consumption?

And yes I have seen the 1kd in action, and right now it rules its category as evident by rally results where vigos have constantly taken the podium.

The 12T is a fantastic engine. It will also give you great consumption figures, 7-9km/l depending on the heaviness of your foot. The 1HD-T is an envious engine too, but won't give you those consumption numbers. HP is nothing unless you specify what you want to use your vehicle for. For rallying, the 1KD will be a better match, for offroading, the 1HD cannot be beaten. All hell breaks loose at 1400 RPM, that is insane!!!!!

Thanks for the info, sounds like 12ht is a keeper of an engine as far as off roading is concerned.

sajid- if you have the option of going for it, just go for it, i assure you it will not dissappoint.

I am seriously contemplating the 12ht in my RKR for the fuel figures.
