    I would think that the following are doable on the 1KZ to enhance performance, however I don't have first hand experience or too much technical knowledge. Some research on the net would produce good results and obviously views from experts would be very helpful.

    1. Increase exhast size: Bigger pipes I understand from the local silencer guys are helpful to some extent.
    2. Better air intake: There must be a perfrmance intake for the 1KZ available on the net or perhaps some locally available alternative would also add a few hps.
    3. Install intercooler: I believe some versions of the 1KZ came with an intercooler (on Hilux / Surf) and you can possibly get one installed. Opinions vary on how much difference this would make but there should be a noticeable difference.
    4. Programmable Chip: As I understand, EFi engines cannot really be tuned at the diesel lab. You need to replace the standard chip in the onboard computer with a programmable one, and then somebody with a laptop (hopefully at your local speedshop) should be able to tune the engine for greater performance.

    Best of Luck!

    If money ain't an issue and you are willing to take the plunge, go for a 'performance chip'!!! There are various available from UK, Australia and probably Thailand. Call Mujahid Zafar at 0300 8455563 as he gets most of these for majority of the rally fraternity. Exhaust piping etc would make only minimal differences.....for a substantial gain in horses, chip it!!!!

    beside chiping you can also add K & N air filtre to it. that will easily give you 5-8 hp. I had one last year and that had K&N filtre and believe me you could tell the difference.

    K & Ns are after market filters UNLIKELY to be found off the shelf around Kci. A word of caution though..... use ONLY the 'DROP IN' type free flow filter for your 4x4 unless you are the tarmac type......the available CONE filters don't mix well with offroading (likely to suck in sand/dust) and can result in serious engine damage!

    Raise the the boost on the turbo, have the intercooler moved to down darft position, just on top of the engine, add a hood scoop to circulate air to the intercooler. Add 3 inch stainless steel extracters, replace valve springs with tighter springs, re machine the head to fit bigger valves, have the timing belt replaced with a timing chain. Bump up the CR, replace the prechamber with with tempred metal built one. Have the block resurfaced, replace the connecting rods with shorter one's and have the engine turned into a square engine, or possibly an oversquare engine. Lots and Lots of things you can do to increase performance. But how far are you willing to go?

    Take Mitsumans advice, chip it, a simple and easy solution to bump up performance on any EFI engines.

    Pod Filters, KNN's, don't do nothing for a diesel and especially for TD's. Youve got the intercooler for density, and turbo of volume, so there is nothing the filter will do except lighten your pocket. Trust me, i have diesel.

    Before Post is closed note following which would hopefully be helpful in the Prado power-chip quest:

    A. A relevant article on electronic tuning devices for LCs / Prados on the Australian LCOOL tech forum for Toyota owners with conclusion reproduced below: http://www.lcool.org/technical/elec_...ng/tuning.html

    "As stated up front, with the advent of electronic control of diesel injection systems, a plethora of tuning devices have been released on the market to tempt the Prado and Land Cruiser performance enthusiast. Let's face it, a chip is a chip isn't it?

    On the face of it, all promise improved performance however as is plainly seen from all of the above, there is a huge leap in going from a simple overfueling device to a sophisticated plug in computer system with comprehensive fuel map, independent timing map as well as built in safety features.

    The cost of these units on the other hand is not necessarily relative to their features or capabilities. For example, simple overfueling devices installed between the ECU and the injector pump can cost between $600 - $1300. It could be argued that, given that these devices are very simple and inexpensive to develop and manufacture, the retail price is geared more towards preying upon consumer ignorance rather than technical merit.
    LCOOL members should now be in a position to better evaluate the variety of options for their Prado or Land Cruiser and to ask more relevant questions rather than relying simply upon quoted power and torque figures. In fact, these very figures which may have at first been the most significant criteria to the LCOOL member, are ultimately the least important, for all devices will deliver an improvement. The important criteria are those that are used to determine which devices deliver the best improvement in engine performance across the entire RPM range and throttle range, fuel economy and engine protection at a reasonable cost."

    B. A relevant post on Toyota Diesel Forums with the following recommendations:
    "....This is how to make a 1KZ-TE sing;
    1. 2.75" exhaust from tail pipe to turbo - replace the cast dump housing too!
    2. clean up the induction system as much as possible - including the inner of the air filter box.
    3. fit an intercoller - front mount is by far the better option
    4. fit a Diesel Tuning Module - see below

    1 & 2 will get the turbo to spin up a bit quicker, but not make a lot more power - dont use crappy foam filters on a turbo engine.
    3 will add reliability by cooling the air
    4. will really bring it to like -
    http://www.eng-tek.com.au/product_in...roducts_id=173 or
    http://www.eng-tek.com.au/product_in...products_id=33

    Thats what I did anyway, and I'm pretty happy with the result."

    C. A good article on a 2000 Prado being chip tuned, also in the super-diesel land of Australia with the following end results: http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Prado...2/article.html
    "The Prado turbo diesel responds incredibly well to the fitment and thorough tuning of the UniChip interceptor. Every way you look at it, a 19 percent power gain for just under $1400 drive in-drive out is a bargain! Beyond the extra power found through the UniChip, David suggests the next possible mods for the Prado include increased boost pressure and a high-flow exhaust. An upgrade intercooler would also be a good idea. With these mods, it's suggested another 15-or-so percent more power will be achieved."
    "If YOU don't believe in what you're doing it'll never work."

    @20ze nah bro

    Some people are saying install an intercooler of vigo and turbo of the 70 series prado . It will also effect the performance very much . And is cheaper than the chip . What u guys suggest .
