    Default Want to increase performance . Prado 1996

    Hey guys , I have a prado 96' with 1KZ Turbo engine auto . I want to increase its performance in pick and top speed . I cant change the engine due to some reason and so far i hav only installed mufflers wid piping . I just want to know can i add some other turbo aswell or something like that . Fuel increased a little is not a problem . Thanx

    @Bhutto: If you are really serious, the best thing I can think of here is that you should contact the guys at OffroadPakistan: Khalid Omar, Imad Ali, Taimoor Mirza are names that come to mind, though I don't have any contact details. Sure someone here can help.

    They are the 1KZ experts in Karachi's and pretty much global authorities on diesel 4x4 tech. I have always found them to be very friendly and helpful, however their web-forum and website is somewhat dormant these days, so I am not sure whats happening.

    @ Bhutto


    With a 1 KZ, there's not much you can do that hasnt been discussed already. Although I would not suggest you to get a chip (effect on KZ is much less as compared to in KD hence chip is not very feasible). Performance intake is a good idea.


    If the engine is not intercooled (1KZ-TE), would not recommend you to get intercooler installed from a local source as mechanics are like monkeys these days and might end u up much worse.





    Good news is that KZ responds very nicely to nozzle (Injector) cleaning and refurbishment. Also, like a poster mentioned, diesel pump settings go a long way in improving performance.


    In short, this is what i recommend:


    - Better Intake / Filters


    - Injector Service


    - Diesel Pump Caliberation


    In order to keep it cost effective and minimize unnecessary fiddling, try these in the order mentioned above.

    ^^ I changed the nozzels aswell . But no major difference . Actually chip is little expensive for me right now thats why cant do it at the moment . Someone told me that i should change the diesel pump ? Will it make any difference ? and can i install the intercooler of vigo in it ? ill use a custom hood on it

    I am using performance chip on 1Kz and also on 1KD.
    1Kz have electronic pump and mechanical boost controller which is pre set at .8 bars. Performance chip works with 1Kz computer (as piggy back module) and controls fuel to air ratio so no need to modify fuel pump but turbo boost is important and set manually at 1 bar with boost controller, as recommended by chip manufacturer. I have tried DP chip and Destek for 1Kz, Destek performed much better than DP. Dyno graphic is mandatory after installing any chip on 1Kz.

    Sir where did u get this Destek chip and for how much ? And u are saying after chip installation we should manually set the turbo boost to 1 bar ?

    Guys, what kind of performance enhancement does all this do;

    1. Does it give you speed ?
    2. Does it give you torque ? If so how much more ?
    3. What increase in HP are we looking at ?
    4. Does it increase fuel economy or decrease it ?
    5. Does it increase engine life or lessons it ?

    In totality, what do all the mods stated above actually do to the vehicle performance, on road and off road.

    Bhutto, my questions to you are;
    1. What are you looking for in 'performance' ?
    2. what is your intended use of this enhanced performance ?

    As for a 'Cold air intake', Drift_Boy is right.
    Cold air intakes add an extra 5-10 HPs to your motor, so whoever told you that it only makes sound, doesn't know how to measure the performance.

    • Now a general question; Can a turbo be fitted to a 3L engine or should I go for a 1kD in my Hilux ?

    2.Its for road only . Never tried offroading .

    Sain, don't do it.
    140kph is even more than enough.

    If you are looking at 'pick' in a diesel then what you already have is the best in its class and can be boosted by the cold air intake.
    It also depends on how well your engine is.
