    Default Cholistan Rally 2010 experience

    (Pinks) MOD EDIT:
    Cholistan Experience video

    The video is 30 mins

    Dear Friends,

We had a splendid trip to Cholistan this year. Its was our first time being a rally participant. The atmosphere was charged and so were NN and myself. NN drove his LC 100 series whereas i was in Pajero 2.5 TDi. Both were running stock with roll cages being installed as a mandatory requirement. Navigators were; Pink Panther and Fishak and ground support and flag off was done by Laparwah. Thanks guys for making this event a success.

From the very begining it was decided that we would not be competing for the podium but would focus on endurance. The intention was to finish the rally in one piece and in peace and this is exactly what we did.

Will be posting pics and videos as we move along....

Mid break point.....where you have to mandatorily stop for 20 mins. air filter change and minor repairs doable only. Fuel you need to carry your own or send it along your support vehicles in advance to the midbreak point.

14 hours sleep in 4 days...that was like on a battlefield. Great experience must be. What was your average speed...4000 plus rpm 130 kmph on a desert track ...how much total seconds of airtime (time in air with wheels off the ground)

Great coverage. were there any helis in the air for coverage?

^^, No helis for coverage, but there wer OB vans from Geo, Dunya express etc covering the start and finsih lines.

That sleeping time was just for me, the uncle of the trip, the youngsters would fall asleep at will through out :-).

Must do thing in life for all 4X4 owners from my point of view. Just compete, podium / winning is going to be tough on your 4X4 and the pocket.

ya one just need to go through the entire track safely. Winnng is a bonus...max joy is just in participatation

Being a first timer you must have many doubts, were you guys briefed about things.what were the guidance arrangements or u had to carry GPSs. How many broken down cars and how was the recovery organised. Did u get any flat tires?

the media covers the whole event but gives a very short clip on tv. There is a need to run a full documentery for interest of everyone.

the media covers the whole event but gives a very short clip on tv. There is a need to run a full documentery for interest of everyone.
There isn't much briefing, well less tha 5 minutes of it at the time of draw on friday night. The best one can do is, mingle with people there and ask for tips. I guess, because we weren't aiming for positions there was no stress etc. Probably gave 90% during qualifying and 70% during the race. Same for Desert Devil. We had to finish and than travel same evening back from Cholistan to Islamabad and join our jobs next morning. It was very long drive but trip made it worth it.

Total 88 participants, I guess around 55-60 finished, 10-15 roll overs and rest were mechanical breakdowns, including tyre problems. There were people who had tyre trouble, changed them and still finished. .

We had no GPS, one can easily do rally without it. Many vehicles were equipped with it though.

There were 11 check points, and all had a vehicle for recovering the participants for any breakdowns during the rally, the vehicles were supposed to be recovered at end of race, by tractors or other 4X4s as necessary. Many serious participants had brought along their own recovery vehicle etc.

Finally both our Pajero and LC did not have any tyres problem though-out the trip. Pajero did have plenty electrical gremlins (hence the sleepless night, looking for mechanisc/electricians) The LC behaved brilliantly, only hard work I had to do was removed both spare wheels for qualifying and put one back inside for race and after race had to put them back at rear and under, Done!

Both Vehicles were essentially 100% stock. Our total prepartion for rally was Getting rollcages built (they are compulsory now), extra pair of air filters (because of dust), Helmets for driver and navigators and finally fire-extinguishers.

So will we see you there next year!!!

Awesome! Beautiful machines and even more beautiful terrain. I grew up in the desert and miss that terrain. I used to tackle this terrain in our rear wheel drive Corolla station wagon. Even tackled mud on this terrain. Used to be a lot of fun. Thumbs up for making the effort guys!

@ Ehsan kiyani/Deedee/Cyberhulk/060276/turbolover/prov slang......thankyou guys for your kind words....

@ Bugzy.....bro the credit for the roll cage and preparing this car for rally goes to Mitsuman....i was already short of time and he is the guy who did all the hard work. The electrical was i would say vis-major and it took us time to figure out which part was the culprit that started the chain reaction.

i was literally without a temperature needle, techometer, brake lights and volt meter...but it did survive and finished the rally Alhamdollilah and yes brought us back to isloo the same night

With this experience now i know exactly what needs to be done for the coming ones.

    @ NN....86 pajero vs 2006 LC....hmmmmmm
