    Default Chassis registration

Is it possible to get a chassis registered only ? A performance / special chassis that one makes himself ?

Would that fall under vehicle manufacturing ?

Admins: Let the thread be here as I want it to be in the Big Boys arena

I noticed a thread sometimes back where this person in Karachi built a small 2 seater car in 1970's which was also registered.

I'm not sure about it. However, u could get an army auctioned chassis, get it verified from forensic lab, modify it according to your requirements, get an engine installed, have a body fabricated and then get it registered. You must have seen trucks without bodies being registered and the body work is done later. Coz u will have to fill in something in the registration forms under the head "body type" and "engine number".

    Default Chassis registration

    Kindly intimate the following:

    1. What is the procedure for registering a vehicle or chassis after we purchase it from army auction.

    2. What is the total cost involved. Is it different for different cities. E.g. registering a vehicle in Lasbella.

    3. @ Cateyez , you mentioned forensic lab. What is actually tested in the lab. Please provide their contact.

    4. Is it legal to purchase the chassis from army auction and then modify it and then registering it. E.g. Purchase a chassis of 3dr jeep and then extend it and place a body of double cabin on it. And after modification, registering it as a double cabin.

    5. What if someone build a chassis himself, by welding and fabrication, then place a body of jeep or double cabin on it. Is this legal.

    Awaiting your kind reply.

    1. You take all the auction vouncher to the ETO's office for registration, there they calculate the tax & all based on the price (cost + tax paid at auction) of the vehicle.

    2. The cost of registration is based on the model, type & engine size (CCs) of the vehicle.

    3. At the time of registration, they may (90% of the cases) ask you to get a lab test done 1st. Lab test is done at Garden Police Lines at the Forensic Lab. The chassis is basically tested for genuiness & the acid reveals a lot. After a succesful test, they give you a lab report for the ETO.
Even at the ETO they would want to see the vehicle, so they may call it in for inspection.

    4. The way you have mentioned is illegal. Thus the reasons for physical inspection. e.g. your auction vouchers say Jeep M38A1 & you come up with a Hilux ..... there's no match.
People had started taking Toyota FJ40s and placing other bodies from Quetta and all, so if the papers say Land Cruiser anywhere, all eyes and ears open and they call it in for an inspection.

    5. That's the question I asked & to what Cateyez replied. Don't think that is possible. The chassis needs to be from a registered vehicle manufacturer.
If you build a chassis and put a plate on it that is of another discarded chassis, then the chassis you built will fail the Forensic test.

    Hope it helps !

    Default Fabricated chassis

    Thanks for the detailed reply.

So now the question is "Is it possible to build a complete chassis ourself and get it registered". This can be done by seeing detailed photos or drawings of chassis of other manufacturers. I think the chassis can be built but wont be that perfect.

Also please intimate if we can place the body cabin of some other vehicle on the chassis manufactured by us. It will be possible, but will it be legal?

Awaiting for your expert opinion. Thanks.

The building part is not the issue, having it legalized is. It can be more than perfect if you want it to be. You just need to know where you want what.

As for placing a body that of another vehicle, that's not legal.

    Hi Sam

I have put some text updates on my thread MUTT SUV Project. Pics to follow on Sunday. Primarily have done heavy duty mechanical mods. Making it look pretty would come later on. Being an engineer I tend to get a kick out of mechanical stuff

I went through the entire registration process myself in Lahore from Verification, Forensic Lab, e.t.c.

Dont worry about registration. I have hookups in Lahore; incase you have problem in Karachi, we can manage from here.

You just start building your chassis.
