Default Noobie on 4x4...HELP from the gurus :)

    Hey all,

I am a noobie on the 4x4 area so please be gentle . Basically I am looking for a 4x4 purely for mountaineering purpose, like khunjrab, skardu, deosai, saifalmaluk, lalazar, chilas etc etc (no cholistan desert rally type stuff). And not just in the summers, but also in the winters as far as I can push it.

I have been going on and about on this forum for the types of 4x4 available and from what it seems here are the possible choices:-

    1) CJ 5 or 7 or weely jeeps etc
    2) Mini Pajero
    3) Jimny
    4) Terois Kid
    5) Potohar :p

The landcruisers and pajeros are out of the question due to financial reasons :p. My budget, simply is about 3 lac, can push it to 4, 4.5 if the machine is worth it. To be honest I love the CJ-7 looks, and it really looks like a mean machine, the mini pajero seems to ummm delicate.

Can you guys help me here.

    1) Basically for the above mentioned places, which of these babies will be the best ride? I am not at all looking for comfort (ofcourse it shouldnt be like a "tangaaa ride" or a "BMW ride", just something decent). Also I live in Lahore so I would still need to have that 4-5 hr drive to Isb to take, so the ride shouldnt be a pain in the rear :p haha.

    2) How much do these rides do in terms of fuel consumption. I heard mini pajero gives only like 6-7 km / ltr (is that true, some say CNG is not an option as its just too a smaller engine). What about the CJ's, on a normal 2.4 diesal engine, how many kms would that give me on a liter?

    3) WHERE CAN I GET ONE, esp the CJ5 or 7, I am not looking for too much work (like engine swap or work etc). It doesnt really need to be flashy, i just dont want the hassle for any engine work..and how much would a decent one cost?

    Many thanks

    xeshu

Trust me, the last thing you want is to be sitting on the motorway in a vehicle with a very low range-high torque gear box/diffs.

I will miss her, that RKR. She will always be the one that got away.
But, life goes on. From RKR to MMC. 4x4 Engaged? Team Unimog, Pakistan

    Cool

@xeshu! I have same budget and same query as yours. Very well answered by Dear PWs.

So, I have decided what I can afford to buy and maintain. Its "Potohar". I know it is most uncomfortable Jeep on earth but it is really easy to maintain and really good in offroad trips. So, Right now I m searching for one in good condition...

I never knew it could be so difficult for me to find a Potohar in good condition and within my budget. But I am searching and I am sure there is one for me waiting... ha ha...

    Best of Luck with your Jeep exploring and buying <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
