Exclamation To buy or not to buy

I am double minded about buying an out of market 4X4.

It is a 2000 model Nissan Pathfinder LHD in great condition. 87000 Km on the clock. Parts will be an issue plus zero resale.

Below is the picture from net. What should be maximum price of the jeep?????

To buy or not to buy -80120

I have kept three different models of same shape, last one was 245 BHP. I know the full potential of vehicle but cannot make my mind to buy it in Pakistan.

What should be considered a good price???

    Embassy auctioned, around 900K.

    Guru G,

Aap ko salam. I am at the airport on the way to Abu Dhabi....................
900K seems to be on higer side for a vehicle which is almost non existant in Pakistan.

Let's see what the owner has to say. Will find out once back in country on Sunday.

@ Para, I think I may have seen this early last year at a Car Showroom in ISB, before I got the LC. I only peaked inside through window, somehow I didn't like it then, however thinking now seems a tempting thing.

Overall the interior wasn't that impressive, I think it was darker colour, blue maybe. Asking price than was probably 1.4 million, negotiable. I didn't make any offer.

Condition may be good, but its still 10 years old and as you said, its an off-market vehicle with difficult resale and part sourcing. Having said that the Nissan are as tough as toyota's, so don't break down often.

As you said, Dil tau pagal hai, so if you love it, you will pay what ever is needed to acquire, otherwise DD's price of 700K or max upto 800K sounds ok to me. Would it be Pajero Replacement for you? This wasn't 7 seater, just 5 seater, if that is a consideration, i.e if I am talking about same vehicle.

jab dil pagal ho gaya hai tou phir or kiya deikhna.Make an offer if owner accepts buy it
    800k for an off-market car,with parts non-availability,zero resale is a gud offer.
BTW have u found any mechanic for her??eeh na hovaye kah parts daye naal naal mechanic vi import karna paye javaye eedaye lai..

And 2ndly,how r they rated??i mean offroad capabilities,do they have any surprises or just a lamb in wolf's coat??

Nn, I think it is not the one that you have seen. Interior is biege and almost as clean as your LC. On the scale of 1-10, I would give it 8.
This one got registered in Feb.2010.

Once I am back, would give him my offer of 750-800. If the lady luck wants me to ride her we might have deal.

    Pajero is gone..........

Imtishal, I have taken them to extremes in desert. This particular one is, I believe, is 177 BHP, where as my last one was having 245

Hmm! Mogambo khush howaa: "The second generation Pathfinder was completely redesigned from the first generation, switching from body on frame construction to unibody construction. The engine was upgraded to the VG33E, with 168 hp (125 kW) and 196 lb·ft (266 N·m) torque."

Lets check the juice from: http://www.zeroto60times.com/ against the fastest competitors that you may possibly find on the road (not really good comps, but a nice list eh!)

1996 Nissan Pathfinder SE 0-60 mph 10.1 Quarter mile 17.7
1995 Mitsubishi Montero SR 0-60 mph 9.8 Quarter mile 17.2
1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport 0-60 mph 8.2 Quarter mile 16.2
    1996 GMC Suburban K2500 0-60 mph 10.4 Quarter mile 17.0
1998 Toyota Land Cruiser 0-60 mph 8.6 Quarter mile 16.5
    1999 Range Rover 4.6 HSE 0-60 mph 9.4 Quarter mile 17.0
    1999 Mercedes-Benz ML430 0-60 mph 8.1 Quarter mile 16.2
    1999 Toyota RAV4 0-60 mph 9.7 Quarter mile 17.2

@ Para, Could be a different one, or maybe I am remembering it wrong, doesn't matter. What I meant by interior was not regarding how clean and well kept, but just the general layout seemed a bit dated or not as stylish.

This 3.3 will probably not feel as fast as your 240bhp one, but that may be good because its likely to turn out more reliable and less thirsty on fuel.

Good Luck, now that Pajero is gone, i am very much tempted to say you should go for it!!

@Suhaib, The 0-60 times, specially for LC are not correct, 8.6sec is way too fast. It could be either souped up or maybe 3 door 70 series etc. The specs I got, shows mine at 11.6sec, 11.3 sec with 2UZ and 10.8 sec with newer 2UZ of 2006 and beyond with 265-275bhp. I have timed mine at 12 sec flat once.
