    Default Diff lock

    Salam all 4X4 experts,

I would like to know, where to get the diff lock installed on my 1993 prado.
I would appreciate if someone can guide me with the price, availability and a good mechanic.

Thumbs up 93 prado diff lock installation

    Dear prado 93 guy
if u want to install diff lock on ur prado 93 , the you need to replace the axles. Axles with diff lock motor have a slightly different tub which has a rectangular cut in it . It is going to cost u around 30- 50 k (IMHO) if u want both front and rear diff locks . Contact ustad Rasheed as he is the pioneer in this area 03335214839.
Also i would suggest that go for rear diff locks only . It is going to be cheap , practical and less hassles .

( BTW , my jeep has 96 prado axles with both diff locks )

    Thanks Mr. Hassan.

Why do you suggest diff lock for the rear wheel. I know its expensive for both the axles, but why not front?

    Default Diff Lock

    IMHO
diff lock in front axles is more productive in situation visavis rear diff lock .
But, the original designs come in with an option of engaging rear diff lock first and if required progressing towards front diff lock .
IMHO this is because rear diff are easy fora driver to engage without damaging the axles whereas front diff lock if screwed the wrong way can result in a axle damage . I suggest that you browse the internet and discuss with a mechanic , know ur expertise on a vehicle and then go for the diff lock options as best as u can affoard / want to have in ur vehicle

    Priority for Diff locks:

    1. Center diff lock
    2. Rear Diff Lock
    3. Front Diff Lock

If u dont have center diff (transfer case) lock then rear diff loc is useless. Some 4x4s even dont have center diff lock. Check yours.

Look for the LSD option in the rear too, serves the purpose too some extent

Not rear or front diff locks, only center diff locks i.e, inside the transfer gear box. Some vigos also comes with rear LSDs.
