Default The 2LT Diesel Dyno Panga

Well I guess all the hp and ft.lbs talk and no dyno got to me in the end and I finally found myself with the guys at HPR Islamabad requesting some for wheelspin on my lightweight diesel 4x4. And before everyone gets all excited... the pics do look better than the results The 2LT Diesel Dyno Panga - icon e smile

Went through your installation piccies. It's a Mitsu intercooler right? As long as there's air flow over it, it should be pretty effective. But I can't help thinking, that you can probably put in two in parallel, seeing that you're modding your turbo boost pressures. The original turbo was only for base boost levels. I'm not sure of it's effectiveness at high boost pressures and temperatures.

Apologies for Bumping this one out, but Salman Ali from Karachi Offroaders and myself have recently been in intense discussions on the good old 2LT and I kept assuring him that there is great potential in that old thing, as long as you can keep it cool enough At some stage I recalled that we had done a dyno test to really assess how far we could actually stretch things, hence I felt like revisiting the numbers again and came across of Xulfiqar's comments above. Well here is my estimated dyno numbers which I would not vouch for the accuracy of but are quite interesting to say the least....

So I dig out this chart which I had drawn up sometime back but did not put up as I wasn't sure whether it made sense or not. Looks quite alright to me now @20% drivetrain loss...

I've been studying this thread with keen interest. Especially the bottom lines, with regards to engine output and performance.

Being a complete and utter layman, with little/no knowledge of the technical terms and jargon being used...I have this overpowering urge to turbocharge and intercool the 1HZ engine that's in the process of being bolted onto the Phantom. A few questions, if I may...

    1. Could anyone quote ballpark figures for the increase in performance (hp and torque) that such a modification would entail?

    2. What sort of decrease in fuel consumption averages (in general terms of percentage) is likely to come about?

    3. What would be the ballpark figure for a turbocharger installation, and what additional equipment (gauges, sensors, switches) if any, would it entail?

    4. What would be the ballpark figure for an intercooler installation, and what additional equipment (gauges, sensors, switches) if any, would it entail?

    5. Most importantly (and perhaps this should be the FIRST query, rather than the last)...the FJ I'm rebuilding doesn't really need acceleration, or huge amounts of take-off speed, to my mind. With the 1HZ producing a respectable 129 bhp, and the (next benchmark) 1HD-T and 1HD-FTE producing +160 bhp...is it REALLY a practicable idea...or am I just playing around with figures that will ultimately just add to "bragging rights" on power/torque?

Inquisitive minds would like to know...

@fouaadhafiz: Turbo charging any diesel engine is always possible and generally reliable as long as you are able to keep boost levels and resulting EGT temps under control. There are those who would say that if the original engine was not with turbo then don't do it cause the pistons, rings, rods etc are not designed for it and there are those who will point out that without a boost compensator (not there on non turbo diesel pumps) results are not going to be rewarding. Both valid points, but that never seems to stop people from doing it anyways...

If you search for 1HZ turbo there will be a number of results to keep your daydreaming mind occupied for sometime. And AXT have a bolt on kit for a few grand which claims to achieve outstanding results:
