Question Suitable Engine to swap in KIA SPORTAGE 2003

Dear Forum,

AOA,

I've recently bought a Kia Sportage 2003. I have got a new genuine radiator installed and done all the possible repairs. I have also installed two electric fans in front of the condensor and one big electric fan replacing the engine clutch fan (also filled the radiator with caltex coolant). Still the I fear that the already weak /fragile / underpowered engine will over heat. It barely corsses the midline and the water starts overflowing through the radiator bottle. I need your help regarding a permanant solution to this problem. I plan to replace the damn engine ASAP.

Kindly tell me which engines are suited as a replacement and how much increase in CC should i go for. I am thinking on the lines of getting a TOYOTA engine, preferrably petrol above 2.4 or should i go for a diesel TOYOTA. Which engine is the best fit. how much power increase is advisable and what good an EFI would do.

Would there be any requirement of modification to the drive terrain as well since currently my 4X4 is not working, i have no idea why.

Any contacts of an expert mechanic in coversion based in Karachi.
Please advise.

Regards

Faisal

there's this guy in pindi sadar...iqbal i guess..swapped many govt sportages with 3ct engine...4x4 connected...have seen his work..
i took a sportage myself to him..wanted to change the engine..questioned him etc etc..but luckily the car got sold...
another option would be the 3rz i guess..it isn't big enough..4 cylinder..but it quite tall...dunno if it'll fit or not..but if it does can give gud mileage with power i guess..

Go for an 1 KZ that suits for both power and reliability and above all easy availability of spares.I've seen few really satisfied persons enjoying this combo.

my father had a govt. 03 Sportage whose engine was swapped with a toyota 3ct with the 4x4 working as well. it was much better than the old 2.0L diesel engine. i'd recommend u to go for a toyota 3ct.

AOA,

Thanks a million, i appreciate the suggestions; i will only make the final descision in the light of your inputs, please also appraise me regarding any petrol engine choices.

One more question that comes to my mind is how does the 3ct toyota performs in hot weather, i mean i hope it will not over heat.

best regards

After a lot of searching i have decided to swap my sportage's engine with a suitable toyota petrol engine, I was advised to swap it with 3S.

Any idea about Toyota 2S, 3S<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />, 5S, 3Y, 4Y, 2TZ, 1RZ, 2RZ, 3RZ,1AZ, 2AZ, 1TR, 2TR, 3ZR, 1AR and 2AR. Which one is better suited. Any experiences of you guys. I shall be grateful to you for any help since the options out in the market are very confusing and eveyr mechanic boasts to know it all and says to have done it all.

Best regards

Faisal

if its overflowing with a slight increase of temp you need to check your head gasket for failure or you have trapped air in the cooling system. This is nearly the same engine as the Mazda 2200 diesel - and that engine is more solid than rocks, I believe the poor sportage is facing the same mechanics syndrome that the original pajero faced and later on Shehzores were having the same engines climbing hills while fully loaded performing sweetly

Thumbs up Finally swapped with 3S toyota

Dear brothers,

AOA

After your vital and valuable suggestions i decided that indeed 1kz is too big for the poor sportage. As i wanted to get rid of diesel i went for toyota 3S. I did take guarantee from the mech and the engine providor for any faults whatsoever particularly the ignition wires. I got the complete deal done in 12 days with matchless performance now. Doing 10km/ltr in city with a freezing AC. bad points are that at low rpm of the engine when clutch is disengaged the vehvibrates a bit but i solved the problem by increasing the idling to 1000 rpm. apart from that no problems, infact faster than many cars and i feel i have lost some grip as the veh has become lighter and much much faster and quieter.

I got it done from an old man named Kala Khan, located adjacent to the caltex pump on Sh Faisal adjacent to the bridde turning toward kala pull. His contact no is 03222475080 and got all the wiring done by bashir electrician at the same place, his no is 03002423862.

I just went one day with Kala khan to Sher Shah, selected the engine and paid the engine guy Rs 1000 as advance. The engine got delivered to mech the next day and i left my veh there too. i just picked up the vehicle on the 12th day alongwith the reciept of the engine and paid the balance money. Sold the old engine to the same engine guy.

During my visits to the mech i saw a vigo get a 1kz, a pajero get a v-twin parado 3400cc and a wrangler get the same 3S engine swapped alongwith my vehicle. the guy never bothered me and got all the work done, namely suspension, gear plate (behind the engine housing), foundations, elec connections, power steering, radiator, AC, and all other misc stuff. So far I am really happy with the performance.

Problem part is the cost. I got the 3S engine for 55k in exchange for my sportage engine although other engine and similar 3S engine were also available for cheaper rates but the problem was one condition of the stuff and secondly solid guarantte.

The mech, suspension, gear, oil sump modification, AC, silencer, elec and the misc cost me around 40k. But the job is superb ad flawless. Ill post the pic of the engine shortly.

AH

your truely
