    I haven't had personal experience with the 2.4 variant, I have a 2.8. They say the 2.4 is slightly underpowered, and in some cases, has overheating problems when under load or on long routes. This is a general statement you hear from mechanics, I don't have any hard evidence to point that out though.

    @pindi

    Go for the 3 dr intercooled turbo 1989 and above and you'll not be disappointed. If kept properly....NEVER heats up! And keep in mind you are not driving a 1 KZ!!! If power is the issue I suggest go for the 2.8 3dr, torquey and good looking too! There is one for sale by @nikka here at PW.....though the price might seem kinda steep but it is one good example of a nicely maintained car!

    @Pindi
    which year are we talking about here ? I have a three door Pajero 86 year and it works very well, the millage that I get is also phenominal. These are very tough jeeps and will not let you down even on off road excursions. Having said all this naturally they are less powerful compared to 2800cc and similarly 2800cc is less powerfull compared to the 3000cc. If its really hot say 40c and you have the AC at full blow and you are moving at slow speeds then the temperature needle will rise up a little but not all the way up and the jeep does not have to quit moving either, and as asoon as you are out of the traffic jam the temperature starts to come back down. Naturally we are talking about 1986 year not a newer one here. I have her now for quite some time and believe me I am an off roader for the last 20 so years and have tried her at very difficult tracks and she has never let me down. I must also reitterate that the millage is awesome.

    There is a mark difference between a 2400 non turbo and a 2400 inter cooled turbo engine. I think, there is some difference between their gears as well. I have kept two 92 model pajeros, one 3 door and the other 5 door, both with 2400cc intercooled turbo engines. The 3 door had a slight edge over the 5 door in terms of pick and top speed but the 5 door was also not bad at all. I would run it on 120 on motorway with AC and have once driven it from Lahore to isb non stop. As MITSU_MAN has said, maintenance is very important.
    So, to cut it short, go for a turbo engine if you really want to enjoy pajero.
    Pls see the pics of both my pajero's.3 Door Pajero -124178

    Mitsu_Man
    Hi the long lost pal "Mitsu-Man". Man your love for Pajero is legendary I must admit please dont get me wrong here. I also have a prado 99 year and have recently sold my Pajero 93 Exceed, have had two other pajeros in the past and many SUVs abroad like in US and Saudi. I once not long ago had a surf SSRG 1997. and when I campare Prado with Pajero or for that matter Surf with Pajero I have a big disliking for the Pajero. You have your own views and I have mine, so do peole her on the net, so why not take them lightly and not start arguing over one comment that I or any one else has placed to benefit someone make up his mind to purchase a vehicle or two. I honestly have regard for the Pajero but I definitely cannot comapre her with TOYOTA period. I mean get real here Toyota has a legendary reliabilty and performance. The engine does not blow up easily, it does not wear out as easily as in pajero, the value for which folks are paying excess money for it does not happen because a few Beaurocrats can purchase one. I mean In Saudi I could never see a single Pajero, perhaps a few with few Sudanies, and that too very old monteros. Only Toyota can with stand the beating that a rural Saudi gives to his vehicle Iam sorry not even Nissan Patroll comes close.
