Default Advice regarding Nissan safari engine 2001 model

I am using Nissan safari 2001 model 3 door with RD 28 eti intercooler 6 cylinder engine.I use the jeep for offloading also but not satisfied with it's offloading abilities because of less torque.my engine needs overhauling.I want to change the engine.what will be the best option.either to keep the same engine or some heavy Nissan safari engine.I rarely do offloading.if I buy a kabli rd28eti engine, then where to buy it and the approximate cost of this engine.

You can put in a TD42 Nissan it costs around 200k

RD28 is rarely available and costs around 100k

Overhaul will cost around 70k and solely depends on the kharadiya and mechanic who are doing it.

The RD28 is a good engine, but from experience, if you mess it up its quite difficult to guarantee that you would get it back in shape out here as both experience and parts are lacking.

I would think you could possibly find a replacement RD2800 engine for under 50K these days given that its an out of market engine which is nevertheless available mostly kabli pieces out of Nissan sedans albeit older models not the 2001 efi one you have. I may be wrong on the price though but you should check to see if you can get a good deal.

The V8 Hasan mentioned would be overkill for the 3 door anyways but given its a newer car I am sure the best option is to possibly get a good newer Nissan diesel engine from Quetta or Karachi, though it may take you a while to find one.

The RD28 is a great engine. It can't go wrong unless messed around with.
Which engine to swap it with is based on which transmission does it have?

The 4.8 VTC you are referring to will be very difficult to attain in Pakistan. I do however feel that it is the best petrol engine these days. If you could find one, you would be very lucky.

Well, as in most parts of the world, in Pakistan there is always merit in making the switch to a Toyota engine..... why do I hate saying such things

Particularly in this case, you have the successful recent precedent of the Nissan Shabab Dragon documented by some crazy fanatic on the IJC Forum : Islamabad Jeep Club • View topic - Operation Safari 1FZ-FE : The Dragon's New Bride

....and I do feel that the market value and marketability of a 2001 Nissan Patrol may actually increase somewhat if it has a Toyota powerplant

If you put in a TD42 it will loose the acceleration edge and will loose a little bit of torque as well. The TD42 is a simple reliable yet inefficient engine. You do things to it that one can only imagine and yet it will run like a dream. Lasts quite long as well. A properly maintained engine can go upto 300,000 kms.

I think your best option is to get that RD28ETi fixed and go with it. Swapping a engine is one pain you don't want to take, there are multiple things that can go wrong at any point. Initially it seems easy but when you get into it you realize that you were better off with the original one. If you swap the engine you'll need to change the transmission as well because its no good with high power engines.

The best option in terms of a swap is a Nissan ZD30DDTi with a S50B transmission. The transmission is bolt on and you will just need to replace the engine mounts as this setup comes standard in Y61 Patrols/Safaris. I have rarely come across ZD30 is Pakistan though.

Well it depends, if the patrol is disposable and you're aim is not resale to get the most of your money back you can put in a V8.

If you need parts for the RD28ETi i can hook you up with the Nissan Parts Dealer in Lahore.
