    Default Pajero Experts! Please help

    Aoa All,

    I have an option to get first generation 5 door Pajero. Currently it's doing 4-5 Km/Litre.

    I wanted to ask if it's consumption can be improved by doing some replacement of old parts or servicing.

    Also, what's the maximum it can do in the city and highways if all of it's engine is in good condition?

    I also have the option to get Nissan Patrol which is somewhat as old as the Pajero and giving same mileage. Which one can be made to consume less fuel?

    You're help is greatly appreciated.

    Don't go for these old elephants. Prado would be a better option. You can find a good condition Prado 97/98 model around 1.2 million or 92/93 model around 700k

    Thanks for the reply. I am not buying them, my father has them and offered me to get one of them.

    So, I HAVE to get one of them.

    Anyone else any idea how to improve fuel mileage from these.

    Thanks

    Get the engine swapped with a petrol one and install cng.Nissan 6 cyl engine (which comes with NIssan cedric) would be a good option. I am using one and getting pretty good mileage.

    @Borris,
    Nissan patrol is wise choice, its more fun to drive than pajero, more road grip, power, road command & beast like offroader, in 4.2 diesel its gives you 8km/L in city & on highway about 12km/L, engine is slightly rough than Mitshu's but but very reliable and simple.

    4 km/lit - are you serious.. It must be smoking so bad that the engine would overheat just idling.

    Things to check
    timing
    injector nozzle spray/noise
    pump internal pressure (most important)
    pump fuel load screw
    stuck EGR (if equipped)
    blocked exhaust/dead turbocharger <- if equipped

    if you want to get your hands super black now and then get any of those - and firstly learn on how to work on diesels, then get its factory repair manual and fabricate/buy some special service tools. - You can then guide/point out a resonable mechanic

    @Xulfiqar

    Thanks for the help. So, any one from Nissan/Mitsu 3S won't be able to help? DO I have to learn to do all of these things?

    @Scorpion-king thanks for the suggestions. Really appreciate the help.

    If Your SUV's Engine is Weak Then Go for a Swap and go for a Petrol Pajero Engine as it's average is good than the diesel one!
    My Father also have a 3.5V6 1991 Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed on petrol which is way better than the diesel one and it's top speed is 180km/h but if you want power go for the same engine!

    @Borris
    My friend's grandpa & one of my uncle still own Pajero 5 door (1st gen). Don't know about Patrol but Pajero should give min 7.5kmpl city, 11+kmpl highways (may be 2kmpl offroad :p).
    Both SUVs aren't suitable for local/regular use unless you've enough money

    Never, Ever go for petrol engine, so you can put CNG & enjoy economy. If you do, your SUV would just become a "status symbol" but it'd lose power. Pakistani climate and road conditions are more favorable for diesel engine SUVs.

    I doubt that. . . Diesel engines always give more millage than petrol ones. Talking about Pajero & Patrol, we take an example of a small car of that era. Daihatsu Charade (1983-88) 1.0 petrol engine millage varies between 13-17kmpl. But Charade Diesel (non-turbo) can go upto 22km in one liter. . .
