The 3L is the workhorse Toyota engine, essentially a low end torque beast and not a higher rev speed demon like the 2LT or the 1KZT.

I think it also has somewhat of a reputation of cracking heads (though not as bad as the 2LT) but given the number of loading Hiluxes I have come across in recent days (from Swat to DG Khan) I would not be too worried on this end.....unless you are looking to add a turbo onto it as Xulfiqar seems to be suggesting

For a CJ7 with Rocky set-up, I feel that the 3L is a good choice for offroading with its low end torque. It will not be as rocking on the road as a 1KZT (which I think does not really sit well with the Rocky setup) or perhaps even the 2LT (which in my view is a bit more fun to drive with the turbo kick) but will be decent enough for what it is.

One thing to look into is that you should select the best suited Rocky gear box and diffs for your needs and engine selection. I believe that there is a bit of variety in the Rocky machinery though I am not very well informed here....

Having said everything, I do feel that the days of diesel engines in our Jeeps are essentially over (at least until the CRD models are available at cheap prices). A petrol engine CJ7 would perhaps be much more exciting and even economical.....

    @Suhaibkani
Thanks a lot for you datail and very worth while advice.
I had 2l turbo engine in my jeep since last 6 years. Though 2l has good pick but is heavy on disel plus when I take the jeep to NA it requries L4 for high climbs. So 3L will be better on torque and disel.

Rest of the year the jeep is used as a work horse on my farm like pulling tractor, pulling big tractor trolly with 50 mounds of load.

1KZ is a very good engine but with high disel consumption and expensive to maintain.

Please advise as does the 3L once is on the highway does it have good speed.

    2 options for u
    1 go for 1kz
    or
    2 go for 3L
1kz is good with high fuel economy other wise go for 3L
but bro remember i think if u want to enjoy more dont use Rocky diff and gear
go for SSR diff and gear the 1 came with 3L u'll really enjoy
i only like rocky because of it's suspensions it's very soft and very cheap also for speare parts
i'll upload my setup it was with me almost 1 year before
my setup was 2LT with rocky suspension and gear but after that my friend use 3L with all toyota suspension and gear and believe me it was awesome so i suggest select any engine but use toyota diff and gear

I have to agree 100 percent with Mitsuman, go for 5vz or something, its compact v6 pushes around 200hp enough for ur vehicle.. go gasoline...

the JZ engine in a jeep is like having a thin underfed city slicker going to the warfront - in the rough stuff there is one thing you need the most - low rev solid torque which any JZ engine will never have

the 3L is nice and torquey but its an agricultural engine IMO - it can be turboed with a small turbo and an LDA pump to have a nice torque band from 2000 revs
