The 60 series was introduced in 1980. While still retaining the rugged off-road characteristics of previous Land Cruisers, the 60 was designed to better compete in the emerging sport utility vehicle market. The 60 was given a variety of comforts like air conditioning, a rear heater and an upgraded interior. The FJ60's "2F" petrol engine was left unchanged from the "40" series while six-cylinder 4.0 litre 2H and four-cylinder 3.4 litre 3B diesel engines were added to the product line.

    Guys,
I want to buy a BJ60 but I want all the features of FJ62 in it. Well ofcourse I want the Flat roof and round lights. Is it possible to change the front of an Fj62 (commonly known as BJ62) and install the front of BJ60? (e.g. Grill & Round Lights)
I dont know if the fenders would need to be changed.
    Cheers

Default Interesting Thread...... A tribute to the 60 Series...

It appears like a good thread.
I have some limited experience with the 60 Series.
Purely personal opinion, with no scientific foundations, whatsoever, is that the most balanced model in the 60 series is the BJ 60 or 61 vehicle, with the 3B engine and 9/37 differentials. The weight to power ratio is well-balanced, and it does not scare one while driving on difficult terrain (I used one for a long long time). The limitation is on high-speed driving, where engine noise becomes un-comfortable. I am not a particular fan of the 2H engine.
The HJ 61 with the 12-H Turbo engine is very powerful and excellent on highway, but is scary to drive on narrow hilly tracks, as in my experience, it is a bit jumpy. If one presses the throttle, the vehicle, being over-powered, jumps forward, and this feeling is very scary in certain situations.
The petrol vehicle, owned by Noaman saheb is a treat though. Still, it is too expensive to run on petrol, and not too feasible to run on CNG, because all the worth-seeing places are beyond the reach of a CNG. Secondly, carrying two 'Explosive' devices in the trunk has never appealed to me.

The serious limitations, though, as I perceive are the bonnet size and angle, ramp angle, and the rear overhang. Large bonnet obscures view seriously, and jeopardizes safety in critical situations. Narrow ramp angles necessitate the use of lift and larger tyres, which compromise the ride quality. The rear overhang limits ascent and descent to a serious degree.

The best point is the overall balance and excellent grip of the vehicle, when stock. I used it for off-roading, and driving on snow, and through mud, and it never once got stuck. The second interesting quality is its price. Generally, it is not very expensive. It is difficult to get hold of a good example, but if one is up for grabs, it is generally at an acceptable price. (I have purchased and sold around ten 60's, including an excellent HJ 61, for between 4,00 and 5,00K!). And it also doubles as a daily runner and grocery-getter. It is reasonably decent, being 4-door, with a hard top, and a reasonable vehicle to climb into (when stock) to be used as a family vehicle.

Overall, I agree that it is a good vehicle
