Default Across the Do Teer Pass....

On our recent trip to Kalam, Swat at the start of Dec 2010, while we were in Kalam we found out that the road back to Mingora had been blocked due to a landslide. With at least two people needing to get back home on time, we were left with no other option but to take the high road back, i.e. to go North towards Utrot in Upper Swat and cross a high mountain pass (some 11,000 ft) into Dir and then head back through Malakand. More to come...

The beauty of the northern areas in Pakistan is truly stunning, and this thread shows some of it to great advantage.

Default And one for Baltoro, the Balti Trail Warrior!

Our not so exciting city rig once again made that brilliant transformation into a trustworthy and enjoyable trail ride as soon as the going started to get tougher. With the ability to shift into 2L (engage low ratio in 2x4 wheel drive) the recently refreshed and intercooled 2L-TII engine negotiated even the toughest climbs with ease as the Rancho suspension held up four passengers as comfortable as possible given the terrain and the speeds we were forced to maintain.

Default Another cheer for all the Baltis...

At the end of the trip, we were all specially thankful to God Almighty for enabling us to undertake this memorable adventure and to be able to share the tale! But there are a host of people I would like to specially thank for assisting in the endeavour....see list below which probably misses out some key people, but thankful to all who contributed indirectly directly or remotely in this and all other endeavours of 2010:

Across the Do Teer Pass.... - filephp?id5210

Gulzada Khan: For being the key driving force of Project Reconnect and our guide and companion through most of the journey.

Dr. Ehsan Kiani: For all the hardwork on Project Reconnect and Project Baltoro....

Asad Marwat: For all the motivation, inspiration and work on Project Reconnect...

The Awan Brothers: The tech team behind the creation and the continuing madness of Project Baltoro which enables us to take the toughest of challenges with confidence.

Saquib Janjua: For the original inspiration for Project Reconnect i.e. to build bridges.....and for the rear disc brake conversion of Baltoro (a true lifesaver!).....not to mention for the wonderful stickers (even the inversed one )

All IJC members and contributers: Too many names to mention here but Aamir Bhai, nn, Parapilot and all others who have strongly supported and participated in Project Reconnect! May the good work continue into 2011 and beyond! IJC Forever!

and last but not least Bugzy: For pressure roasting Baltoro's engine a few months ago so we could enjoy a fully refurbished one during the trip! Surely did wonders to the low end torque!

SK- thumbs up for taking time out for this venture. Is the area "visitable" with family? Any places to rest for the night or is it all rough country?
