Question Beyond 4x4Engaged? 1st Jeep Snow Rally Malam Jabba 2011

The Malam Jabba Snow Rally Trip was initially conceived from my 2010 September visit to flood victims in Swat when Suhaib Kiani pop up with an Idea"Janj what about a Rally in Malam Jabba".

Point Blank was the thread i launched then to show people this part of our country is also badly effected due to the recent unrest in area.

Revival of Malam Jabba - . Ready for my own personal war, I prepared a plan in my mind. Before setting out on this trip, I inspected and practiced the Play Ground track on Asad Ijaz Hilux truck ,

an amazing, completely crazy adventure that left me both exhausted and invigorated at the same time. When it was all done, I decided that others should be able to experience something like this; to enjoy these most remote and amazing back roads and the related contingency planning not ordinarily required in normal driving.

Fortunately, you'll not likely experience all the insanity, problems and emotions I did with this "out of the box" type adventure, but that you're here, reading this now, is near-proof that I have succeeded in making a little of this chaos and fun more available to the people.

Love every bit of it.

Hats off to Janj and 4x4 Engaged team for arranging such a beautiful rally

Lovely meeting NN, Asad, Parapilot and Noomi.

Well Done Janj and the Gang. Its a welcome relief to see these activities taking place in Pakistan. Great show everyone.

10/10 well done Janj and team...

Excellent trip, managed beautifully, awesome playground ,enthusiastic participants, and above all GEO JANJ .

A memorable trip it was, good coordination over all, good event and good participation despite the fact that most had to take 4 days out of working or personal time. Lastly, on account of the news from the region, atleast, my family wondered why am I taking unnecessary risks. Still, went to Malam Jabba, mainly because of the persuasion of Saqib (janj) and frankly, I am very happy to have gone there because I now know that Swat is more safe than most of our cities, hence, am already planning to take my family to Swat this summers for a minimum 5 day vacation.

As always, our brothers in crime from IJC graced the event, and, while adding more great memories, it was fun to share jokes and memories of the past events.

Rally was supposed to be the main event but in my personal opinion, the track leading to the valley where the event was arranged was more difficult and thrilling than most of us could have imagined. As always there was a lot of support, both material and emotional for those who were less experienced in driving in such dangerously narrow, steep and snow covered dirt tracks.

All in all, it was well spent 4 days, the event, jokes and experience of which will be a source of personal joy for the rest of my life.

No doubt Janj, Saidhi and 4x4 engaged Team....... it was an event full of various kinds of treats.... from bbq to snow chains from making the track till butt freezing cold. it was just awesome.

Would like to thank the entire 4x4 engaged? team for the hospitality and warmth extended to us and to my IJC partners in crime. An event which will live forever with us.

Oye laalays game on thee! Instead of getting emotional about this, I will say it was a superb event, and followed the philosophy of 4x4 Engaged, hunt new tracks and terrain. So with the club, its never a repetitive track, but its the entirety of the whole experience that makes these trips top notch. I enjoyed everything, but most of all enjoyed stupidly dancing around with close friends.

As mentioned before, no doubt, the track leading us to the rally point was more challenging that we would have ordinarily thought. Just 1 pair of snow chains was the bare minimum, and all of us should have carried 2 pairs.

Asad and other IJC members need to be thanked for their company and hilarious talk on wireless radios.

I have had very limited exposure to the North of the country, and plan on doing some major exploring in the near future. I don't know why we waste money and travel abroad when we could have twice the fun and memories in our country.

Jay ho Pakistan kee.

PS. Great pics guys, chal DD, dubara shuru ho.
It was a great event and very well organized.enjoyed every bit of it .thanks to Janj and team 4/4 engaged

and i was the first one to reach meeting point at thokar niaz baig followed by janj... we put stickers on the rides and there they go....
-Bugzy and Sufian were leading in fully loaded Defender with tow trolly and accompanied by Rizwan Buttar aka Adventure fotographer.... Bug and Sufian smoke the hell out of Rizwan ....
as janj says, "Life's too short, Live it!"
only a few realize how many months of effort had been made to organize everything for us just to sit in our cars, go there and enjoy. janj, bhai truly respect you for that.
i would like to thank JD for his efforts in keeping us warm and providing us hot food.Plus, in making the journey as painless and safe as possible. Even then me and buttar found a way to get ourselves in a sniper lock ... boy! will never forget that!

Accompanying both senior navigators, the thought never came to mind i would be sharing 1st prize with saidhi .. hehehe .. as he said "Im the lucky navigator". but Gold Leaf did its job pretty well ;-)

The track as always was really really amazing and enough for me to do it on foot and finally sitting with parapilot on the last incline. Thanks ehsan bhai.

IJC brothers: Asad bhai NN Parapilot and nomi, you guys are a great company and dont let moods go down for a second.

Qasim bhai: Thanks for the Stereo you have installed in the defender. Apart from all the 4x4 accessories, this i believe was the most important since most of the times we were not allowed to make a stop in our trip, sufiyan bhai's collection of failed love songs did there job.

Guru g, thanks for the display of your enlightened emotions on "XXXX Sutta Na Mila". that is also one of the never forgotten moments of the trip.

RizwanButtar: thanks for showing me how my camera actually works. but next time, i will ask you in a more convenient way

Sufiyan bhai: you are beyond explanation ... LOL

JANJ: bhai, you are truly an inspiration. Congratulations on the successful 1st Jeep Snow Rally(with prizes) your out of the box approach has again led us to become part of "history in making" for the 4x4Sports in Pakistan.

Last but not least Immy: dude! you are normally working your A#$ off in the background and nobody finds out how much time and effort you have put into making things enjoyable for us. just to put up with and follow janj's instructions and brain waves and mood swings is very very tough, but you go beyond that and make things happen.

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,

PS. Great pics guys, chal DD, dubara shuru ho.
as janj says, "Life's too short, Live it!"
only a few realize how many months of effort had been made to organize everything for us just to sit in our cars, go there and enjoy. janj, bhai truly respect you for that.
i would like to thank JD for his efforts in keeping us warm and providing us hot food.Plus, in making the journey as painless and safe as possible.

His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know what a great weekend I had with you guys while we were in Malam Jabba. It was a fantastic trip and it was so nice of all of you to have taken out time for a tour of the area.

The scenery was beautiful and totally different from my Summer visit to the Rally Play Ground.

Asad,NN,Parapilot & Nomi(IJC), I'm not sure when we'll meet again, but I hope it won't be too long -- it's always nice seeing you guys and we had such a fun time while we were there. And please let us know of any plans you might have to visit Lahore.

Thanks again for joining us in a truly great event.

Bugzy can explain the situation better cuz I was too bust wrestling with the steering
LOL --- well qasim bhai had planned to go with two chains on the front tyres initially -- but last minute change was the addition of two more on the rear wheels... which happened to be studded too ... hence resulting into a lot more traction on the rear wheels with a lot less steering control on the front ......

qasim bhai on every turn had the steering turned completely in opposite direction in the hope that EVO would turn while me getting frustrated why he is doing that! Finally, thinking he might not know where we have to go, i told him,"bhai right jana hey ooooohhhh right jana hey yaaar!!!! $%@#$%
got qasim bhai's reply,"OOHH $@#$@#$ ko right hi mora hua hey !!!!!"
realizing that just scared the ____ out of me, knowing we had yet to do the incline ... which by the way was the easiest part of the whole run compared to what was yet to come ....
well on the way down, EVO (the donkey decided to go the other way without prior notice ... hehehe ) felt it should go where the jeeps are parked ... and upon a lot of steering negotiation by saidhi finally EVO's A$$ came back to track but in anger, it ran over a directional tyre janj had placed for drivers to show where to go,
After that ... well not so smooth sailing as I so wrongfully thought .... I managed to muster up enough power and courage to raise my hand and point while mumbling, "Qasim bhai udher jana hey" .... as if he didnt know!

Approaching the outer side of the circle,EVO, again decided it had to go right towards the edge and see whats down there .... and i felt my guts coming in my mouth ... thankfully saidhi managed to bring EVO back to its senses
finally on the last run ... the minute my guts started going back to there normal place ... EVO just stopped listening at all! as if the steering was just for show there ... instead of turning right ... it just dashed straight for the snow that had no tracks ... Now my fear was, "this is unexplored area .. what if there is a ditch there ??? .. what if there is a huge mountain rock there .. and the sweat on my **** was back!!" ...
Finally EVO saw some jeeps on the left and decided to go for them ... and luckily the finish line was right next to them .... and just before the jump we found some grip and saidhi, not missing the moment, just negotiated enough that no matter where EVO's a$$ was , the face was directing towards the finish line

one Heave ..... one Jump ... EVO not missing the Finsh Line pole ... we crossed the finishing line ... stopping just a few inches from RMR's Prado ...

With all that going on in my head and Saidhi I think must have turned the steering a thousand times ... we both felt we have spent more than good 2 to 3 minutes ... fighting with EVO ...but joy of joys and surprisingly we were told that our time was 1m:20s ....

Well personally! I thought we had been there for hours ... ... after all that, we stood there -- ate the left over of mars bar, saidhi had a winning smile while i was trying to smile after all that i had been through ...

The lesson I learned ... Never loose hope and keep on trying ... for what EVO was doing to Saidhi, it was his shear commitment that brought us the joy of the first prize ...

but I will never forget these 1 and a half minutes of struggle ... i can still close my eyes and do the track all over again anytime

@EVO ..... VROOOOM VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

Thnx Qasim. Rizwan, Sufiyan n myself completely froze standing upthere at the top making these vdos! The spectator n scenic view from upthere was zabardast and worth it (didn't feel like that at the time though!). Was up there for nearly 40 minutes, the wind chill was nasty, specially with hands out of gloves to use the camera etc. The fingers were numb yet hurting for nearly an hour afterwards!

qasim bhai on every turn had the steering turned completely in opposite direction in the hope that EVO would turn while me getting frustrated why he is doing that!

@EVO ..... VROOOOM VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

I wish we could see an audio/video of the cockpit at these opportune times. A spectacular run by Evo to say the least.

Jay ho Pakistan kee

PS. Great pics guys, chal DD, dubara shuru ho.

His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
