    Default Wagoneer 1983

I have seen a reasonable condition wagoneer with a person and have developed some interest in buying it. Its in original condition, painted only from outside. Has 2b diesel engine with original 4 fwd gear and total original mechanically. Original seats, dash board. No AC, no heater. Can someone pls let me know the following.

    1. Is this beautiful beast worth keeping for offroading purposes.
    2. Can i get it's body parts from the local market?
    3. If the original things (mechanical items) needs repair, like brakes, front ends, leaf springs, shafts, crosses, steering assembly, free wheel hubs, than would it be possible to find these things from the local market.
    4. If not, than is there any alternate of like using toyota items in it? Pls specify all above mentioned parts.
    5. Is a 2b engine enough for this heavy weight vehicle? And what would be the diesel consumption?

    Regards

    Noman,

I have kept an 83 wagoneer with a 3B engine for years before my Hilux.

It was all original, but then we changed the 3 speed gear with a 5 speed gear.

The parts that you have mentioned are not a big issue. Just check what differentials it runs with and whether they sync perfect with the 2B.
As for a 2B in that machine, I don't think that it would be an issue, but would also suggest not to expect too much out of it.

Does this one have a power steering ?

All in all, it is a hassle to maintain once things start to go bad and when one starts to do alterations, the whole geometry, chemistry and physics start to go bad.

    Aoa.
We have had a 1979 Jeep Cherokee for the last 26 years now. We had OEM mechanicals in it initially but in the mid nineties we converted it to all TLC BJ 60 (with 2B) mechanicals (we could not find a broken rear wagoneer axle). Recently we are again rebuilding it with a Big Block V8 and all mechanicals from a Suburban and 37" tires. You can see pictures and details of the rebuild and other older pictures at the IJC forum. To answer your questions.

    1. Is this beautiful beast worth keeping for offroading purposes.
    YES
    2. Can i get it's body parts from the local market?
No. You have to dent all the sheet metal. Stuff is available in Quetta though.

    3. If the original things (mechanical items) needs repair, like brakes, front ends, leaf springs, shafts, crosses, steering assembly, free wheel hubs, than would it be possible to find these things from the local market.
In my opinion, it is very difficult to find spares for the wagoneers. You have to venture in to salvage yards and scavenge for old spares. New spares are not available.

    4. If not, than is there any alternate of like using toyota items in it? Pls specify all above mentioned parts.
    All Toyota BJ 60 0r 80 Mechanicals.

    5. Is a 2b engine enough for this heavy weight vehicle? And what would be the diesel consumption?
Yes it is (but who wont want more power ).

    Thanks
    Ehsan

    @noman8ff

Well if it is all going to be BJ mechanicals, I suggest you rather buy (BJ) one! On the other hand, if my memory still serves me right, you do have a decent BJ already on your hands????......or mayyyyyyyybe it's the desire to be the king of jugar is kicking in!
