I am in the process of aquiring a BJ70. While most of its dynamics i can relate/compare to my FJ70, one thing i am unsure of is its fuel economy and viability as a daily driver. The vehicle in question has 5 forward gears,4.1 diffs and 200,000kms on the odo as far as i know. Opinions/advice on this matter is needed from any owners/experts. Regards.

The 3B is a very reliable and workhorse kinda engine. Very similar to the 3F you had in your RKR, minus the fuel it runs on. I've sat in a 60 series LC, owned by Nuic, with humango maniac tyres drag along in the city just fine. Sorry, don't have specifics concerning economy. I think however, you would miss some torque the old 3F was able to deliver. BUT!!! I hear you can add a turbo if you're bored, and effectively make your 3B into a 13B-T!! And that is a pyscho diesel engine. Coil sprung?

I will miss her, that RKR. She will always be the one that got away.

Toyota 3B diesel.. plenty of torque.. expect a 8-9KM/L avg from a good 3B.. depends on gearing/diff ratios.. can be noisy on high speeds (100+).. good old skool diesel overall... parts no issues

A good 3B engine carrying the load of a 70 on it with a 5 fwd tranny should give an average of 8 to 9 km/ ltr. An excellent engine if u know how to drive it. I have kept cruisers with 2H, 12HT, old 3B, new 3B, 13BT and now have a 3F in my 62. I have thoroughly tested all the above engines. Every engine has it's good and bad things. To me 3B is an excellent choice for a 70.

13BT - The best diesel to put in with avg of 7/8 in city and 8/9 on highways. Crazy torque and power.

I agree with 3B but don't you think 13BT rattle too much.
