    Default Project Restoration / Modification / Up gradation Toyota BJ40 (o---o) 1967.

Here you go guys, My recent acquisition of Army Retired 1967 Toyota FJ40, currently with a hilux diesel motor matted with 4x4 SSR gear box.

Plan is to keep the current engine for a while till the body works gets completed, including roll cage installation, front & rear bull bars, big foot, seats, Snorkel, etc then the motor will be, either replaced with ledendry Toyota 13BT diesel or an Iconic Toyota 3B diesel with a H55F 5Fwd Manual Gear Box.

    regards,
Yeah there is no rust at all - following pic will give you idea of 4x4 shaft though it was missing and the 4x4 was not working. Yes i think the gear box is on the stock fitting, though engine mounts were relocated to adjust the new engine.

    1967 Toyota o---o FJ40 -250591

Pls suggest me the roll cage the current one has to go obviously rather it must have been removed today.

i wrote "ball joints" mistakenly, its actually "tie rod ends".

    cheers

All Suspension ends replaced, brakes serviced, differentials serviced, all rubber bushings replaced, chassis painted, body painted from downside after coat of rust resistant primer and a little patch work on front foundation of body (you can see the rusted foundation in pic which is now fixed)

now body is back on chassis and denting is being done 1967 Toyota o---o FJ40 -256777

Nice and ambitious project! I have always been inspired with such projects and really want to take up one but sadly work and studies don't permit me to do so.
IMHO, in such restorations the chassis should be sand blasted before painting. This makes them good enough to go for a few other decades without rust. Correct me if i m wrong here.

I thought u were going with white color?

    regards,
Yeah i was going for the white but later out of the blue it turned to be yellow now the black thing you see in last pic under body tub is some rust resistant primer which my dentor has sprayed.

Yes engine and tranny is fixed before the body is placed. And please do not compare it with your level of restoration as yours was awsome with deep attention to details. Its a budget restoration

yes bro you are right that ideally it should have been sand blasted but fortunately mine one was not having any thick layers of paint so after detail wash from Kerosene oil it seemed ok. So I just did painted a thin layer to give it a fresh look.

Engine with tranny is back home and tub is also placed. just a minor pannel beating and now going through paint process.

Please dont worry about engine outlook because its all rebuilt from inside and now in very reliable condition, however it will be washed from outside later with new paint & polish at some of its exterior parts 1967 Toyota o---o FJ40 -259996

Interior removed and i am surprised to see that there is no rust - No patch work required at all just cleaning and grinding the old paint off and then we may go ahead for the paint.

Though all bolts need to be replaced as they become so rusty and the previous owner has sprayed layers of paint on all nut bolts.

have a look after initial wash and removal of interior.
