Thread: Buying SURF - need URGENT advise about 1KZ engine

    Default Buying SURF - need URGENT advise about 1KZ engine

    Right guys!! so I am wanting to buy a surf...was waiting for my car to sell and now its sold so I went surf shopping...
    I saw one at a dealer....
    its pretty old ... 1992-93 ( 2nd generation basically)
    the guy has changed its engine to 1 KZ (from 2L)
    I drove it...and went through bumps and car suspensionn seemed fine....so i went and showed it to a body shop...who says..its good...no accident..

    HOWEVER!!!!!!!! when i showed the engine to the mechanic (he is petrol mechanic basically)....he said...the engine does "BLOW" .... look how dirty it is...and also the oil level was low and very dark....to which the dealer said that its not been changed for long time thats why its so...and the dealer swears that the engine is perfect...its a NO BLOW ....

    o and also there was a huge cloud of smoke when i pushed the surf hard.....to which the dealer said that u have to change the nozzels(whateverr that is....i never had diesel engine so dunno what he was on about)....

    and there was also something about the starter as well...the car started fine when i tried...however, the guy said you have to change bushes of the starter motor or something...

    soooooooooo my question is!!!!!!! is the mechanic right about BLOW!!! how do i check the BLOW thingy!!! and whats this smoke all about.....do you think i should get it even if the engine is weak (as per the mechanic) ... though the dealer swears the engine is perfect ....and get it overhauled or wait till it dies and get it overhauled???how much would I have to spend on overhauling?!?

    final silly question!! its engine is swaped...so do you think the registration book should have entry of it ??

    would much appreciate your input ... i have told the dealer to give me till tomorrow afternoon to decide....

    4x4/engine experts please help....o and also about the 4x4 gear!! how do i check it ??

    check 4x4
    take on ramp check gear box for leaks plus u joints for any free play
    start plus switch to low 4x4 and move car will move on hi revs
    neutral shift to H4 aply gear steering feeling bit heavier then normal little hi rev but less then low 4x4 check un usual noises in drivetrain do take u turns on H4 position to check frnt axles if worn would give cracking sound

    Dear I dont know if you already had buy that surf or not..any way.. I have Prado 94 which has the same 1KZ Turbo..converting 1kz to 2L .. stepping 1 step down....but its already been changed..

    maintaining Diesel Engine is quite difficult than petrol ...one has to change oil timely other wise that happen what you stated ...in this case surf's engine is seem to be worn out ..back blow is quite obvious...one thing which is quite important in order to evaluate diesel engine is cold starting.. how is that if it starts in one self and blow black smoke its mean you just need to change injector or nozzles and every thing will be all right ..if smoke is white there must be a big problem you are going to face
