Thumbs up Need to restore my old queen

    AoA
Friends I traveled on this machine for quite 5 good years it was perfect... in 2008 I wanted to restore it in excellent shape, started the project but due to my Mechanic who shifted from Lahore to I don't know where, the project stopped, later on I shifted it to one of my friends factory... now it is lying there for the last two years........... many times I requested friends on Pakwheels to guide me for Resto,,
I need to make it the Queen once again..... need experts to suggest.....?

    Take it to Mandi Bahauddin.....

    1. Get all the body parts and denting completed.

    2. I see 1Kz...it's a good powerful engine.

    3. Get all the suspension parts like imported coil springs and scoks, Poly bushes...etc

    4. Get nice set of alloy wheels and All terrain tyres.

    and keep it rolling....

    @baburawan

First off, I'd like to quote SuhaibKiani's advice to me, when I started a rebuild of my own.

"What do you want from this vehicle?"

Ultimately, that is going to dictate HOW you play around with it, WHAT you play around with, HOW MUCH to play around with, and what you EXPEND upon it.

Ask yourself these questions, time after time, and vector in the cost factor each time you do so.

    Do I need a body-off-the-frame rebuild?
Is an engine swap warranted, or should I just overhaul?
What work is required for the suspension?
Is the frame good to go?
How badly do I need for ergonomics and aesthetics to be a part of the rebuild?
What sort of tyres do I want?
Where do I find the Ustaads that will be able to undertake this project, expertly?
What amount of money am I ready to pay, at the end of the day?

These basic questions, will allow you to prioritise, and help in channeling your efforts to the right point(s) of focus.

Don't rush into it. While most of the people reading this thread are well-wishers by default, YOU are the one who's forking out the money, inevitably.

    Suno sab ki...karo apni.

Take time out to research what you'd like to do. Pick up ideas, and add them to this thread. Pictures. Experiments. Wacky, crazy thoughts. Make this thread your online Journal / Scrapbook for your thoughts. Follow these crazy ideas, with a continuous, painstaking research into the economics involved.

When you've answered all of those questions, repeatedly, and the vehicle has firmly taken shape in your mind...you'll be ready. Then, and only then...take that plunge!

I'll be following this thread closely! Best of luck.

Sir you have mentioned that the frame and suspension is perfect and also looks perfect in the pictures, you have all body parts, the body seems mostly straight just needs some denting and the body is almost entirely aluminium so there would be only minor rust on the non-aluminium components, so why would you even think about a body change?

You haven't mentioned what the engine is like or I may have missed it but I would assume that the engine is fine too, if so I would recommend you to firstly have the whole car thoroughly washed inside out and complete it, i.e. install the missing fenders, bonnet and the front etc so that the car is "loose" assembled and you can actually see what you're working with. In it's current state unless you do restos frequently this project is going to overwhelm you if keep it looking the way it looks right now and then in due course fatigue you out.

Once the vehicle is loose assembled, then look at what your base is like and create a checklist and list of things that need to be done, from the images I see I would say under carriage and frame etc all good, perhaps exhaust needs to be replaced or just rust coated, engine would need some TLC before being started, check replace hoses, fuel and brake lines, caliper re-build all around so the vehicle is safe, complete fluid flush, check rad, repair/replace if necessary, replace all fuses. Now you have a good base vehicle. So start looking at aesthetics.

Identify what areas need to be attended to, dents scratches etc, and also give your LR another undercoat and a rust coat on the inner floor too, I see some of your window rubbers etc are also missing, if you don't already have them stored they should be available, in fact virtually everything should be available for this Defender. Attend the dents and scrapes, get the vehicle straightened out and base prepared. Don't over prepare the body as local paint no matter where you get it done from is almost never flawless and this is usually entirely attibutable to poor prep work. So again, don't over prepare the body, only prepare the parts which have ben dented, rest of the body is all good so just have it sanded to give you a good base for paint, have it bake painted, use Y2K, and thats it, while driving the car tart up its interior, do other minor upgrades if required and you're done.
