Default Experts Advice Regarding Spacers in CJ-5

When I bought cj-5, i noticed that its tyres touches "kamanis" on turn. So I asked my mechanic abt how to resolve the problem. He advised me to install spacers. So as usual acting on his advice I installed orignal spacers (of any japani SUV). Now the problem is solved. And I am satisfied with the work done
I havnt did any offroading on ma cj-5 after installing spacers. Today me & asadsethi did some light offroading & I hvnt faced any problem because of spacers. But Asad told me that spacers are not recommended @ all for offroading regs. Though he was not having any proper knowledge about spacers drawback but he said that he read this thing in one of faudhafeez's comment.

So experts pls advice me what to do? As per my mechanic the spacers are orignal japnese so they wont gve any problem

Suggestions Awaited & thanks for ur suggestions in advance

What tires are you running and what kind of issues you had before the spacers were installed?
are you having stock suspension (Leaf Springs and Shackles)?
and last but not the least what is the width of the spacers in inches or centimetres?

Pls let me know the following

    1. Existing rim width and rim size?
    2. Tyre size?
    3. Top width of tyre?
    4. Width of spacer?

Also please post few pictures of tyres and rims from side, from front and from 45 degrees angle.

    Just some random thoughts...

You have to bolt the spacer lugs onto the wheel hubs. Once you bolt the rim ONTO the spacer, you have NO way of detecting how tight the spacer lugs ARE. Loose spacers can have catastrophic consequences.

Poorly constructed spacers may well be prone to corrosion or buckling or cracking. This can be problematic, since these spacers can't be visually inspected without removing the wheel. Again, spacer failure may have serious consequences.

Unless the spacers are VERY tightly torqued onto the hub lugs, there may be some play left over...which may increase wear and tear to the hubs, axles and suspension.

Best way to get around this (in a general manner of speaking), is to ensure your spacers are well constructed and fit well, from the start. Keep checking them regularly for fit and tightness.

And it should be realised, that in some cases, spacers are the ONLY way to go, without resorting to drastic (and costly) changes. Your case, Imran, seems pretty much one such case, where you NOT using spacers, may lead to catastrophic tyre failure from rubbing against the suspension. I guess all things should be considered, according to the situation they merit.

    Cheers.

Thank U guys for too quick response

    Presently tyres size is 235/75/15
    Front spacers 3 inches
    Rear spacers 6 inches

Jeep is having rocky suspensions & the only reason to install spacers was that on turns front wheels use to touch kamanis. Turning was almost half & on turn both left & right tyres use to get touch with kamanis

    @imransavul
sir are u talking about the shackle lift or wheel spacers coz the 3inches n and 6 inches is too much for wheel spacers as this will damage the whole suspension geometry of ur jeep...
can u upload some pictures of the setup for before and after the spacers?

    Obviously wheel spacers bro
Ven my mistri fone me & said that he got spacers. The first thing I asked him abt its size. After knowing the size I asked him to leave these spacers. But thn he said that they are orignal spacers that fit sum where in hub & end result will be maximum 1.5 or 2 inches xtra space between tyres & kamani (as compared to old setup). And my mechanic was quit right

I'll upload the pix tomoro so that U get a clear picture
