Default Advice on shifting from LC 90 (prado) to LC 80 ( 1996-7 fesh import)

    Dear Friends

A few days back I was almost 100% done to upgrade my 1996 prado to 1998-2001 LC 100 but the only concern is that my use of prado is a bit rough especially on expeditions ( hunting and northern areas trips)and number of tours r around 5 in an year. We pass through narrow tracks, often rub the jeep with bushes, climb on roof with hard shoes, through garbage inside jeep as for Eco tourism I don't allow anyone to through anything out of the vehicle, sometimes drinks fell on seats and in cabin and with this prado I don't bother these things and there is not even a single scratch on prado despite all these carelessness. But with a high end luxury land cruiser with around 4 million price tag, we hav to bound ourselves which i don't want.
My prado has no issues but just for a change after an year, I want to shift to LC.

Another idea which came to my mind today is to go for LC80, usually most 80 series here were imported in their year of manufacture but I need one that is 2006-7 import as it will b less abused.
Need advice from u guys , is that a better choice from Prado . It will b my daily runner + family car+ expeditions in north.i know it would b heavy on fuel but doesnt matter a lot. No plans for hardcore off roading as for that I hav wrangler.

but still m more inclined towardes LC100, its more reliable, durable, luxury, comfortable and slylish looks
Pl also advice if u hav some in sight but should b fresh import and auto.

    Regards

    Asad Sethi

    (this is my prado)

Don't worry its not easy to break either 100 or 105, they are just as tough. The only reason most people don't rough it up more is because they are newer, hence more expensive than 80 series!

If u require a heavy duty machine with solid axels then go for 105 series. It shares same chassis as 80 series with few cross members etc for strengthening. But if u want something near luxury then you must go for 100 series with AHC suspension. It needs maintenance but the ride is superb. I personally hate a 100 series with no leather seats and AHC suspension. For 40 lax you may get a 100 series (the one with AHC ) but it won't be as it should be. I have a couple of 100 series both with AHC and on one of them I spent 16 lax from last year till now to make it drive like a 2012 machine. I bought them in excellent condition but still they need maintenance. I have a 80 series as well which is vx ltd. it's an animal of its own. Not as blinky as the 100s but does the job very well. Good luck. Btw both of the LC 100s are chipped and one new dashboard version give me 7 km/l while the old dashboard version give around 6. There is difference of ecu, gearbox, injectors etx

    AHC = Active Height Control
The AHC system adjusts the vehicle height automatically with air leveling control and damping forces continuously according to driving conditions.

The AHC system is composed of an automatic air leveling system and a four-wheel independently controlled semi-active suspension system. The air leveling system is equipped with two stand-alone type air springs on rear two rear wheel, an air compressor, a potentiometer height sensor which measures the relative distance between the body and wheel, and on/off solenoid valves. It aims at the maintenance of the design height against the payload variation on vehicle rear side.

I would like to add something about 100 series and 105.

Well on international forums as i have seen people compare
They only go for 80series because they can fit 35"s on it and have no body rub with a simple lift kit. But when done with 100 series there is body rub.
Other wise every one choose to get a 100 series.

Secondly NN used to do offroading and one rally in his 100 and it is in good shape

Its mostly been my daily driver for last 3 years, its been to Saiful-Malook, Noori Top, Shandoor Top, Lowari Top, Batogah Top, Hopper glacier, Kalash valley, and plenty more places. And as Qwertypoiu said earlier, I also participated in Cholistan Rally 2010.
