    both engines have same fuel consumption, but different power output. It is vital that the engine be adjusted carefully - e.g. the old 4D56 pump has a mechanical boost aneroid on the pump which increases fuelling under boost.

    Also vital is correct timing of the engine with a dial gauge, calibrated nozzles, new head bolts, new con-rod bolts and a descaled cooling system.

    My Pajero Gen 1, 2.5 Trubo does 6 km/liter, local. Dont know about long route.

    mine non turbo 2400cc, gives me around 11-12km per liter in city.

    dear owners
    2.5tdi easliy gives 12 kmpl provided you donot push gas to floor every time you start from red light or halt ,mostly EGR is responsible for bad economy not the pump EGR is located close to turbo can be cleaned as DIY if you ve little techanical knowledge

    EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation
    In Diesel Engines they get filled with Burned exhaust dirty/black/sooty smoke which usually start effecting/blocking airflow, increase engine oil acidity, & in later models of pajero: butterfly valves(fitted to intake manifold just before cylinder head intake ports).
