Default IJC offroading at H-9 Islamabad, 13th May 2012

I am sure when off-roaders try to explain to non off-roaders about offroading, they say we take our 4X4 to off-roads areas and try and do difficult obstacles, or climb rough terrain etc. And in return mostly they will hear from non off-roaders " So you take your perfectly good vehicles to offroad areas to break them" IJC offroading at H-9 Islamabad, 13th May 2012 - icon e smile .

Well today IJC gang went to H-9 area and it proved to be a true vehicle breaker offroading session. 3 out of 7 vehicles got nasty surprises n consequently got damaged.

Unfortunately I was too busy in recoveries and damage control, hence do not have many pics, and no one else brought any camera, but hopefully there may be a few mobile camera stills or vdos!

Incredible driving skills...and a perfect synchronisation between man and machine, in calmly figuring out how to tackle this track.

Very well done, both Driver AND Jeep!

    Insha Allah...soon, brother.

Given the enormous challenges that driving in such illustrious company is definitely going to impose...this Phantom had better be good at being able to tackle such tracks, and NOT just be "tall, and that's all"!

From what I see in the photos, and from the amount of vehicular carnage that the vehicles were subjected to...this must have been one electrifying experience!

And...after having gone through this thread in entirety...I have absolutely no doubt, that the IJC members are all deranged, crazed, semi-psychotic gearheads. What a wonderful bunch of people to know!

Kudos, guys. The action shots and videos are amazing.

    Respect.

    Fouad.

Fouad bhai, wondering if Phantom's such high COG will become a serious problem on mid-high angled obstacles... have you thought of that and any solutions?

That's a very pertinent observation, Nomi. And I've been agonising over it quite a bit. You're right, of course...the Phantom IS very tall, and its COG must have shifted considerably higher, in comparison to a stock FJ40. However, while it has grown vertically (15-16 inches), it has ALSO widened considerably (+20 inches). The fact that it's also been lengthened (by almost 40 inches) is also likely to affect its behaviour, when negotiating such obstacles as you've mentioned. The approach and departure angles have gone up as well (and are in the 75 and 60 degree range, front and rear).

All of this makes for "uncharted territory"...especially for a completely non-knowledgeable person like myself. I think the Phantom's slope-negotiating capabilities are going to have to be quantified empirically...the old-fashioned way...by lugging it up and down such slopes...in reverse and in forward...and sideways!

All of this makes having a sturdy roll-cage ALL the more important PRIOR to the test & adjustment phase!
