Default Land cruiser Auto gear getting very hot

    Hi Friends

Recently I swapped my Land cruiser 92 London Model engine to 24 valve 1FZ-FE with Auto gear A442.
Still mechanics are working on it. Today I go to a try and observed the gear lever and console is getting very hot with out AC. There is no warning light for A/T getting hot. Is it normal ?
Please help me out before I accept the car and pay the money.
I am trying to restore the car to a upper model like 97.

    Thanks

    Haroon

i think it would be normal or the drive train would be touching the body....maybe the new gears produces more heat causing it to transfer to the gear lever....i dont think would be a problem

yeah. its normal with the new gear box. when i installed my new gearbox, i got the same problem. HEAT!! i taught its the heater core OR some engine air leakage entering the cabin, but NO, it was the gearbox issue. The whole area gets heated quite good enuff to feel after 1 hour of continuous drive, its when the gearbox comes in REAL-Warmup action!! Physics:Heat is energy. There is A-LOT energy there inside the gearbox, so it produces HEAT, especially new gearbox. the only 1 solution to avoid this issue is to double carpet OR aluminium foiled thick foam/fiberous coated sheet to the heating area of the whole gearbox in the passenger compartment, not the underbody. There is no such covering aftermarket or OEM solution for the underbody, which many mechanics will tell you to get the gearbox shield, that is useless term. This will need removal of front seats & the whole dashboard material, including other misc. plastics attached to the front area.

It's not normal. I have never had this kind of experience on any LC. Check if the gearbox cooling setup is properly working. Is the gearbox connected to separate oil cooler or radiator ? Was the car manual originally. ?

I agree with Saad: for the gear to be uncontrollably hot simply can NOT be normal. Common sense would dictate otherwise. I would suggest a little research on the subject. Does the 1FZ-FE (when mounted to a A442 transmission) come stock-fitted with an oil cooler? Are there any additional cooling arrangements for such a configuration? Are you using the right fluids? Are the gears fitted and engaged properly (on another forum, an FJ40 owner found out that the reason why he didn't have optimum speed was because he had inadvertently engaged 4L permanently)? Are all the electrical connections in order (electronics, being one area, where our maestros are somewhat less-than-entirely-reliable)?

I think a combination of Google, and some good old-fashioned trouble-shooting should get you to some sort of logical answer.

    Best of luck.

I am trying to search for a 1996 LC with petrol to verify the fitting. Rest of the things are ok like pick and speed.
If Any one having LC with the same engine 1FZ-FE with auto transmission Please tell me about the cooling system of transmission.

Your best bet is contacting Shabab Haider (Untame on PW), he has LC80 with 1FZ-FE and 4 speed auto-transmission. Mine is also the same but its LC100, so may have different setup. The other two 1FZ-FEs in IJC are with manual tranny.

PS: it shouldn't get hot at all, console panel temp remians same as cabin temp.

@nn Please can you tell me which type of silencer fits in FJ 80 LC with 1fz-fe. The local silence maker made it simple without the smaller two dholkis.
And can we get these kind of silencer locally which fits bolt to bolt or minimum fabrication.

I am no expert on these things, maybe a TLC 80 owner or some other expert will have to answer your querries here.

if you have access to the old radiator get hold of it re-route transmission cooling lines. Auto transmission is always connected to cooling system unless otherwise a separate oil cooler is part of stock set up

Old radiator is gone, but I am trying to change the radiator.
Is it possible to check if the oil cooler is working fine before installing?
