Default 6G72 DOHC in Gen1 Pajero (SWB).....Is it possible?

My Pajero is currently powered by 4D56 turbo inter-cooler version of engine (all stock).
    My questions:
1: Can I swap 6G72 DOHC (engine is probably from a mitsubishi GTO car) in my Gen1 Pajero? offcourse I mean is it bolt on and without any major modifications in engine foundations and mounts etc?.
2: does this engine couple with existing gearbox or any modification in bellhousing or in anyother thing will be required?
3: I have seen Pajeros with 6g72 SOHC and that engine looks quite different in appearance; is there any major difference in DOHC version other than head?
4: Yes, I know alterations in air intake, exhaust, radiator etc will required under the bonnet...is there anyother thing which is not doable?
5: and anyother thing which; I may have missed

As I am not interested in major modifications, weldings and cuttings; re-building 4D56 is always an option.
    Kindly help by your inputs

    regards,

The 4D56 is BRILLIANTLY ENGINEERED A-Class Super Small Diesel Engine i've ever seen in large size SUV's like PAJERO!!
My advice: Don't CHANGE 4D56. Swap your old gearbox to new one, cause 4d56 need new gearbox after every 200k miles.
You just need to TUNE-it accordingly & perfectly to get the maximum efficient performance.
Good: Excellent mileage / Bad: under/slow/sluggish acceleration.
You need to analyze & balance all the parts to work correctly & perfectly, including back pressure/exhausts/turbo & manifold setup/intercooler setup(check air leakage or blockage) etc etc. All these things need to be adjusted appropriately to get the best from 4d56. Enjoy!
    Vehicle History: Pajero 1 & 2 (4d55 Non-Turbo - 4d56 Turbo & 4M40 I-C Turbo) / Land Cruiser BJ60(13B-T Turbo) / Nissan Patrol GQ(Td422 Non-Turbo)

    Thanks fuma!
I do reckon that a Properly tuned 4d56 is good. Gearbox is working fine and no issue has been faced or observed.
But my questions regarding 6G72 DOHC swap are still not answered?
    Anyone there?

I think IT is do able and the gear box also support this engine. the bad part of 1st Gen pajero is that it have almost one piece gear box while toyota use removable Bell housing mostly which helps in swap.*
*i think you wait for the Mitsubishi experts like Mitsuman ,joinami, laparwah etc..............

you can put a 6G72 sohc in gen 1 but not a dohc version without a major surgery. Sohc will sit bolt on. It has about 150 horses to it. The DOHC version came in Gen 2 and is a bit more powerful but they would sit bolt on in a 2.8 pajero i think. i would suggest go for SOHC version, it has lots of power and you will enjoy it. Advisable would be to get it off a half cut to avoid missing links etc.

My 4D56 TDi was sluggish, powerless and blowing a lot of black smoke. As I have been maintaining it. I knew that the engine was fine but the local mechanics were saying that the engine is getting weak. I searched and contacted few experts from Pajero forums....and acted upon their advices:
1: Gave the whole air intake path a thorough cleaning and changed the air filter.
    2: Checked and adjusted Tappets
    3: Blocked the EGR valve
4: Checked the turbo waste gate actuator. Waste-gate was not permanently open and working properly.
Believe me it has made a lot of difference. My Pajero is much better, responsive, quick and powerful now and no black smoke at all. Hearing the turbo spooling and giving full boost is much fun now.

Note: Don't just listen to the mechanics; they may mislead you.

But the questions regarding 6g72 DOHC swap are still open please!

    Regards,
    Sohaib
