Default JEEP EXPERTS NEEDED!! Restoration of my Cj-7!

    hey all,
long time fan/reader of pakwheels.com, first time posting. I have a 1980's Jeep CJ-7 which i am looking to fully restore and perhaps modify. Since ive never done this kind of thing before, i would like some advice/help. mainly i would like to know engine, gearbox, and suspension details. as this jeep is now retired from hunting (got another cj for that) i would like it to be a road jeep, meaning it will need to come off the 'kamaanian' and onto spring shocks etc.

i will post pictures soon, as for now, any jeep experts out there get in touch, perhaps we could do this as a group project. thanks.

Best of Luck... Restore it with Genuine CJ7 parts.. and best of luck for Project.. If you want to drive on ROAD, NOT 4X4 then i think you dont need 4x4 gearbox and engine as the fuel consumption will be increase..

the engine at the moment is from a coaster bus, im not sure which one exactly, dad had it changed like 8-10 years ago. its a diesel engine. i think 2800cc. again, i dont have much of an idea about the engine.

i would like to replace it with an economical, yet powerful, petrol engine which would be quieter. this engine right now wakes up the dead when i start it up.

As for original parts, i would like nothing better to restore this to its original beauty. Also, good point about not needing 4x4 since we have another Cj thats all hooked up for off roading standing at the village.

attaching some pictures of the current condition. body is relatively rust free but needs work. i would liek to put skirting on the rear panels , basically a body kit. tires will have to be replaced, there is a lot of work to be done and i hope to be started soon.

can anyone recommend a good powerful but relatively silent engine for this car? even if i do want 4x4? any help is appreciated. thanks guys.

Beautiful Jeep you got there. It looks like it has no local modifications and alterations. It can be restored in to a real mean machine. Your thoughts of restoring it in to a stock CJ7 are really commendable. In my personal opinion, a Jeep MUST have a working 4x4 option whether it will be used or not. Taking away this option from a 4X4 vehicle is a blasphemy. But, that's purely my personal opinion. And fitting it with its own easily detachable light fiber glass hard top will definitely make it suitable for fun as well as for other practical point of view.

Good Luck with the restoration and keep us posted on this project.

    @Timmer84
    Nice rig man.
The engine seems to a B series. I will recomend not to change it at all and I am sure if you start the engine now it should be fine. Just get the pump serviced. B series are not bad when it comes to fuel consumption. The best ting about them is that they have a lot of torque and these engines are built to last.
Try keeping the jeep as stock as posible. Do not change the Shakles and stuff.
The best place to get a good restoration Job done is Pindi(City Sadar Road) but you can get it done here as well.
I have the same Jeep and I am happy with the job Farooq Awan(Mecanic City Sadar Road) did.

If you change the engine-which I think you sould not-give me a call I may be a potential buyer of the engine.

In case you want to disscuss something I am available anytime. My Cell is 0300 9409466.

Revive the existing engine and just give it a good wash.... you are good to go.
secondly i some how feel you are expecting it to become a car or something....
make up your mind you want a hard core type 4x4 or something else.
    RIP
