Default Jhal Magsi Desert Challenge 2013 - News and Updates Thread!

Since its awfully quiet on the thread and since I am playing with keys while the shahsawars are playing with steering wheels, I just thought I would do something useful today and start a thread for race updates and news while we wait for participants to get back. Here are the PakWheelers I know attending the rally:

Doc Nadeem Naeem - Vehicle : Nissan Patrol Pickup - Navigator : Zohaib Jadoon
Asad Marwat - Vehicle : Mitsubishi Pajero - Navigator : Shahzad aka Pinks
Qasim Saidhi - Vehicle : Mitsubishi Evolution - Navigator : Rizwan Buttar

Will try and get some info on whats going on and request anyone else in the know of things to share photos, videos, news, updates, experiences, ramblings etc or anything that you may feel is relevant! Even if it isn't, lets make sure we keep this going as, make no mistake about it: Jhal Magsi is perhaps in many ways the only motorsport event of its kind in the world!

    Race Schedule:
    January 11, 2013 : Recce and Scruteneering
    January 12, 2013 : Qualification
January 13, 2013 : Race and Prize Ceremony

Best of Luck and a Safe Driving to all particpants! SK
PS: Some Pics and Full Results Below. Thanks to all photograhpers and posters!

I was going to say the negative camber on this roush f150 is just bonkers but you beat me to it .... looks close to 10 deg there... also noticed Mukesh Chawlas vigo running a decent amount of negative camber too... people are brushing up on their chassis engineering skills ... very interesting developments on the jimnys... interesting wheelbase extension examples ....

Doc NN/Asad, some insight into how well the roll cage held up would be welcome... im putting mine in on the weekend and need tips...

The solid axles seem to maintain its camber slightly better its appears, normally set at +1 degree anyways....

I think its about time we should get down to some result analysis and disection! For starters:
    - Both Qasim and NN seem to have overtaken a couple of cars each during the first stage!!
    - Ronnie's time in 1st stage is exceptionally fast for a Vigo chasing Nadir's super turbo...
    - Sardar Hasan's 1JZ-GTE seems to be suffering in 1st and breakdown in 2nd...
    - Dhanji Sb seems to be coming to terms with 2JZ-GTE power, seems to have had a clean run...
    - Good to see Gohar on the D podium, his best friend Aminullah as fast as ever...

Qasim overtook Sarfraz Dhanjee and Sardar Hasan in stage 1.

Dhanjee Sb said he made it close to Channa Sb in stage 1, but it was after Nadi and could not overtake in the dust.

One interesting thing is that although Channa Sb finished stage 1 ahead of Dhanjee Sb, Dhanjee Sb was let off first for stage 2. Intersting anomaly, not that it really matters, both were not podium contenders.

Need to confirm with Ali Aden, heard that Ronnie had a tyre change in stage 2, which is quite possible looking at all the times. If there indeed was a tyre change than he would have been very close to Nadir / Qasim!

Syed Asif Imam (Kulti) was 4 minutes slower, compared to his last year time!

Rana Sumair Noon who came 1st in Category B last year with a time of 2 hour 18 minutes! While this year according to him his Vigo chip wasn't working and still he managed 2 hour 17 minutes!!! And had he stayed in his own category B, he would still have been 3rd and....................

Dhanji Sahib came behind Channa in Nadi, he honked but either Channa could not see him or whatever, Dhanji Sahab could not pass. He had to follow him to the finish line of Stage 1. Dhanji Sahib protested and race officials, who confirmed it from CP-# and some other Marshals, decided to send him ahead of Channa in Stage 2.

Ronnie blew his front left tyre in the rocky section after Mulla, changed it and than finished. According to them they had Khorro in their sight when this happened. By their account, they changed the tyre in 7 minutes, to be confirmed from GoPro footage, which means that they could have had a better time than me, second only to Nadir

Oh boy! Nice pic above and I know Qasim and NN are gonna laugh me off on this one but...
....but I just don't like people splashing into the Jhal River, its just rude if not disrespectful for the river and riverbeings not to mention zayadati with the vehicle!

There are countless examples now of breakdowns during or after the river crossing and I would attribute half of them to the rapid water cooling (especially in case of thrash splash entry) of all parts of the vehicle after a massive endurance meltdown run across the high speed patts/straights. Even the "performance" parts on the vehicle (including the tires) are surely at their maximum temperature tolerance upon entry and by the time of exit they are probably close to their normal running temps. Only to be subjected to rock torture and dirt further abuse in the 25 or so remaining kms... Not even talking of water inhalation or electrical issues here, which are important no matter how new or well preppred the car like Birchu's Tacoma last year!

The other half I would write down to superstition in the magical place that Jhal is! In any case, its just a terrible idea all around and nothing good can ever come off of it..... just my two requestful cents
