    Thumbs up V8 FJ40 Restoration Project | www.4x4MeanMachines.com

    A parallel project which was long awaited and finally comes to its startup point. I was able to get hold of a nice piece during my restro search of 4x4s.
    The reborn of this FJ would be entirely for offroad purpose so we have planned to put all stuff accordingly. Since so many minds are working on this so I expect to have a masterpiece ready in the end & all types of suggestions are welcomed.

    Initially we have planned to take a start from suspension includes, new diffs, 4 wheel disc, front hub locks, front and rear e-lockers, new shackles and some refurbishment to kamanies.
    Then we will move on engine 1UZ with 5 forward gearbox, upper model power steering, brakes, new shafts, double silencers and misc. and then the tire department
    After having test rides paint job, interior and exterior decorations will be started, a wonderful and powerful winch is also anxiously waiting to sit on this FJ first.

    Machine,
    Plans were to install 2UZ but now we are going for 1UZ.
    Anyone where can explain pros and cons of 1UZ OBD-1 and OBD-2 ?

    The 1UZ has two primary versions the more common pre 95 OBD I:

    .....and post 95 OBDII VVTI one which looks more like the 2UZ:

    The newer VVTI has an electronic accelerator pedal (drive by wire) which can be a pain to match up unless you have a matching accelerator assembly, nevertheless its doable albeit will cost 20k extra. Most of these engines also have a immobilizer which needs to be unlocked for another 15k or something. The con of the older engine is that its slightly difficult to find a clean one in Pakistan, nevertheless the part availability is there to a large extent....

    Whichever version you get make sure that you get a deal with the kabaria in the sense that he will guarantee to replace/provide any parts that you may need even if you have to pay more upfront. Some parts which can be problematic on older engines are Air Flow Sensor (AFM), wiring connectors, ECU, AC compressor and power steering pump.....

    Most importantly make sure that the wiring for any engine you get is as much "there" as possible. On older models there are a number of variants and you should please make sure that (i) Wiring (ii) AFM and (iii) ECU are from the same engine model otherwise it can be a major issue.....

    SK,

    Thanks a lot you have solved my big problem, before this i have heard 100 stories about OBD-I and OBD-II, bla bla bla.
    I think i will go for OBD-I, reason dont wana spend some extra thousands and i think this one will easily go along with our local ustads.
    Visit BG yesterday and i found 100s of 1uzees out there in perfect and complete condition.,
    Next week have plans to go for final shopping for engine and gear.

    At present i am working on e-locker diffs and expected to have them ready from workshop by tmr noon.
    Once suspension is ready will put in the engine and gear.

    Any sugguestions during this process are welcomed.

    Reached Rwp for some LC shopping, need to reach Kala Khan famous for kabli gears (learnt this from BG shopkepers) some where around Mithu area, dont know the exact name of place.

    1st thing i need is 5 forward LC gearbox (kabli) and a hardtop (heard i can easily get one from city sadar road)

    You can get the hardtop from Gulzar Ustad or Jamil Ustad at Citi Sadar Road. You should be able to get a clean FJ40/FJ60/FJ70 5 speed gearbox from various people in Rawalpindi. Will PM you my number if you don't have it, let me know if you needany help.

    Fouadar I am assuming you have visited BG lahore market for engines and parts recently. Who would you recommend for 1KZ-T and 5 Speed manual gear box in Lahore? I am looking this setup for my FJ40, 1982. It has 2F with 4 speed currently.

    Dear we usually buy engines from ch. Shafaqat, I will pm you his numbers.
    Secondly we buy gears from a molvi sb who deals in only kalbi gears you can also ask for him when you are in BG.
    He shop is in basement.
