    Thumbs up V8 FJ40 Restoration Project | www.4x4MeanMachines.com

A parallel project which was long awaited and finally comes to its startup point. I was able to get hold of a nice piece during my restro search of 4x4s.
The reborn of this FJ would be entirely for offroad purpose so we have planned to put all stuff accordingly. Since so many minds are working on this so I expect to have a masterpiece ready in the end & all types of suggestions are welcomed.

Initially we have planned to take a start from suspension includes, new diffs, 4 wheel disc, front hub locks, front and rear e-lockers, new shackles and some refurbishment to kamanies.
Then we will move on engine 1UZ with 5 forward gearbox, upper model power steering, brakes, new shafts, double silencers and misc. and then the tire department
After having test rides paint job, interior and exterior decorations will be started, a wonderful and powerful winch is also anxiously waiting to sit on this FJ first.

Rest pics will say all… stay tuned!

SK, you are right, mountings will be boxed up sooner with side walls and all. I will post pics of final mounts very soon.

Fouad, these are original celsior/ls400 mounts. In this configuration, as i see it, there is nothing to limit the torques produced in directions which are not parallel to the bolt running through its center. This MIGHT pass for a strictly on-road vehicle, but for anything that moves off road, in cross axled situations or crow-hop during those 'kainchis', you will snap these rubbers like wafers before you know it. Please lose them ASAP.
    V8 FJ40 Restoration Project www4x4MeanMachinescom -1172692
Here i have shown a 3F engine mount, although it appears to be extremely 'chinese'. Encircled, you will notice metal overhanging plates which are present on three of the four sides. The idea is that you place the mount such that both of them work in conjunction to lock the engine's movement, both for forward/backward and left/right sway. This is done by placing the mounts such that the sides which are flat without any overhanging 'lock' plates face eachother when placed on the chassis' foundations and the overlap plates that you see on top of this picture face the vehicles fenders. That being done, the plate encircled on the top of this image limits sideways engine movement and the ones you see on the front (the back not being visible) limit forward and backward motion of the engine.

The rubber is just supposed to be an insulator for vibration of the engine and these plates actually hold it in place during off-road operation. Without correct placement, 'janiun' or desi mounts both fail equally quick.

I would probably have to agree with HamzaF here. I have broken one of the mounts on my 1UZ 40 which was of the RKR type shown above.....

I have gone through a few of them now. The rubber in the mounts is like i said before just for insulating vibration. The side of the mount bolted to the chassis is fixed with no motion. The side which is bolted to the engine moves for example when you're cross axled and gunning it resulting in the engine moving transversely. Now this creates a shearing strain on the rubber insulator and the over lap of those 'locks' circled in the picture stops this motion. Without it, you keep breaking them.

point well noted and i will re-do it next week and share pics with you guys. i was to this point earlier but my mechanic insisted to stick on this style and guaranteed that nothing will go wrong. But any ways thanks for sharing your experiences here to make me move on right way.

    Salam Fouad,

What happened yar, I am considering your work as Bible for my FJ40 project.
I like to know why you have selected to work with 1UZ-FE "Front" oil sump engine instead of "Rear" oil sump engine. Both engines are available in the market, moreover, you have installed H151F 5-speed transmission with 1KZ Pressure and Clutch plate, how its running.

Moreover, I want to know why you guys are using H151F Transmission with 1UZ, why don't you consider FJ40 Stock (H42) 4-speed gearbox for job. I have reasons which I will share after your reply.

    Please reply.............

w/salaam brother, the reason i have selected 1uz to see my fj gunning on the roads of lahore secondly as far as i know the rear sump engine is not available in Lahore, may be in Karachi. I searched a lot for rear sump but i was not successful in finding. he seats ar
at present as you can see that seats are in fixing process so i have not tested her on and offroad in my style. but it sounds great and i expect her to be flying all the way.

the stock fj40 gear is also a nice toy to play with but i prefer 5 speed instead of 4 speed gear,
4 speed gear box sucks on long routes.

just came back to office after checking seat fixing, it is very difficult to restore anything in this hot weather.
anyways, i was happy to see the design outcome which i gave it to my person, although it was a gora style copy.
the seats where too high and my thai's were touching the steering wheel, so we are now making some alterations in seat frame and steering column.
