    Believe it or not, the kamani Kaikra belongs to Qasim Saidhi, being done by Farooq Awan and co, with Akif Janjua taking care of electronics.

    Took it out for a drive, still some stuff to be done namely put a silencer on right bank. I cannot floor a 1uz without a silencer, it's not just loud, it's the most absurd thing on the planet....

    Seems like a very interesting project, never really drove a real Hilux before to be honest, and its quite a different monster! More later.....

    The video cannot really capture how loud this gets, maybe the expression on Ehsan's face is a better indicator:

    Well, as I hinted I don't really know how it all came to be as probably no-one seems to have put too much brain power behind this Qasim bought the auctioned car on some sort of a momentary whim for a rally support vehicle project. I suggested the 1UZ and picked up a clean cheap one from Haji Zaman and the rest just seems to be coming together nicely thanks to Farooq and Akif, Touch Wood!

    2002 Hilux is a Tiger or Vigo? Why convert the engine, I guess a failed 1KD? 5VZ is good but just about double the price of a 1UZ. Probably doesn't have all that much better fuel economy and nowadays, good 1UZ engines and clean parts are readily available unlike a few years ago. So its worth thinking about, unless you are thinking of resale, though not sure which one would be more marketable nowadays All the best!

    02 is a tiger, came with the 1kd... @hayzin, just to build up on what suhaibs put up and whatever little (read a lot) ive researched for my own desert bashing lux, i'd say go for the 1uz conversion, pound for pound the Uzi is more bang for buck, its lighter and much much more powerful... if youve driven one of these 5vz 3rd gen surfs you'll know what i'm talking about. The 5vz is a nice engine but needs to be revved hard to get it to perform...just doesnt feel like it has the torque...feels very limp after a 1kd. Any 1uz and the relatively rare but more powerful 3uz would be my choices for a conversion.... my two cents
    More Power!!! More power....

    @yaserag and @SuhaibKiani

    Guys no doubt 1 UZ is has a better kick than a 5vz.
    I was at Hajji Zaman's place and we were trying to negotiate a deal with him but he was fixated on his price. He has a white 2002 single cab standing there with the 2.8cc stock engine. I asked him about swapping the single cab to a double cab to which he gave the idea of swapping the engine also. When we started checking out the blocks he had, 2 options stood out to us. 1 was the 5vz, the conservative option. The other one was the mighty 1GR engine (Tacoma engine) which would give anyone a rise
    So to sum it all up, in the end Hajji offered a price of Rs.140,000 for the 5vz with tranny and an astounding 450,000 for the 1GR. Mind u this is without the price of the double cab (unregistered) for which he wanted 12.5 lakhs. I weighed the pros and cons and decided that I'm better off looking for a clean 80 Series with 1fz set up.
    Although one can imagine what a 2002 Hilux would feel like with a 1GR....

    To save you the effort, why would you doubt that this is doable There have been several IFS conversions down there on CJs and I don't know about the earlier ones but the recent ones definitely do drive straight So yes, the Kamani Hilux to Vigo front conversion is definitely doable in my books if you can foot the bill...

    Long story short the cheapo oldie 1UZ will kick the mighty 1GR's butt anyday and anywhere! There are videos on Youtube / FB proving it with an FJ40 vs FJ cruiser!

    That makes two of us The Hilux has 4.8 diffs vs 4.1s on Uzi but has a much nimbler drivetrain. Almost the same weight overall I guess, so I guess they should be pretty comparable overall! Its a much easier thing to drive though with the seating position like a car and soft steering. The suspension needs some work (kamanis) and investment (shocks)....
