To end the suspense, although its quite unheard of as far as 1UZs go and seemed very unlikely looking at the state of the engine when bought, there was something wrong with the compression on 2 or 3 cylinders. Although the engine output at full throttle seemed to be all there, on slow running we could not get rid of the missing. Another thing was that the timing of the engine was completely messed up and it would not start when we tried it for the first time. So long story short, engine was replaced by Haji Zaman with a small penalty and we picked up another piece from his infinite 1UZ stables this afternoon.

All efforts were underway to get the new engine started today after replacing the wiring, throttle body, exhaust, electronics and "oil sump!!!!???" on the new engine from the old engine. All these things have been checked (multiple times) and found to be in good order, so no taking chances! Unfortunately just got word that something seems to have gone amiss with the starter pulley, and fire up has been delayed until tomorrow

Well, a little disappointing, but its all in the game! And hats off to the working team for their continued dedication!

But every cloud has a silver lining and the lord has funny ways! I also got word earlier in the evening that the new 1UZ is actually the Simorgh, the mythical rare unseen mid/rear sump variant! Had to go confirm for myself and by the time I got there the mid/rear sump had been surgically removed off the new one and put onto the old one (along with the other accessories) as the fitting was done with respect to the front sump.

    The front sump:
    Project HiLex Kaikra Build! -1215201

    The rare mid/rear sump:

And so it would appear that the prayers of an old man are finally to be answered after all

Of the 4 or 5 "Lexus" V8 engines we have experienced first hand, when it comes to refinement and smoothness this one is actually working like an actual Lexus engine making the other UZis look a bit like raw brutes. Mashallah, touch wood, very nice and easy driving on the Hilex on a short trip to Islamabad and back. You could roll the car in first/second and effectively fire the fifth gear and forget about gears if you want to until you get a red light or get home! No engine knocking at all and at idle the car becomes so quiet you would think you are in a Prius! On slow cruising, it actually suffers from the fact that pedestrians don't hear a car coming in at all, its so quiet! All in all a job well done it seems and Farooq and Akif both appear very satisfied after the engine change, as they were not happy with the older engine at all!
