2500 Pajero Evolutions were built from October 1997 till March 1999. Most of them were with triptonic transmission and probably 750 had manual transmission. May be now you know why it is a hard to find engine.

Its also very expensive to rebuilt. Firstly it takes months to gather parts from Dubai/Japan because most are on back order. Once you get them, rebuilding this very advanved engine is difficult for our mechanics. Ronnie and Ans Khakwani built their evo engines with an average cost of 700K each and both engines could not take rally beating, so rebuilting the original engine made no sence, especially when its 280 horses are no match for the current A Category standard of 350 plus bhp.

Might be too late to raise this point but those OEM hydraulic engine mounts will never take the beating dished out in mild fourwheeling, let alone full blown rally bashing. I went through two such sets of mounts in my 1UZ powered CJ7 before biting the bullet and switching to Hilux mounts. No breakage since AND they're no worse for vibration or harshness

Yes, I saw that but somehow had thought that these must be the original Evo engine mounts. I had overheard a discussion between the chaps where they had discussed mounting 1HZ or the Evo engine mounts. Not sure how these OEMs ended up in there, but these are being replaced while the rear sump is mounted and engine is also repositioned slightly .....

Dont understand the above discussion on mounts, Evo has rubber mounts and not a single mount broke during any of the rallies. I have 2 complete sets of new mounts also available as spare. Evo's engine or gear mounts dont have any hydraulics.

SK, my request is to try to keep Evo mounts under 2jz as these are time tested and I have 2 spare sets in inventory. these mounts should be able to handle weight of 2jz as both engines are almost equal in weight.

If I remember correctly, Farooq told me that Evo's genuine engine mounts are neing used with 2jz

LOL I didn't mean to cause any confusion! I was just referring to the engine mounts visible in the picture I quoted - they look like the OEM 2JZ units... rubber with an oil filled cavity inside to reduce NVH. They're great for on-road applications but less than adequate for off-road action.

BTW, I would like to know what intercooler configuration you guys are planning on running... I had read somewhere the original plan was to go for top mount?? Is a BOV needed too or will the engine's stock recirculation valve suffice?

Current plan is to go for top mounted and work with stock engine circulation. Several challenges I must say, but working it out one step at a time and hoping for the best
