@TheAviator : Nooriabad seems like a bridge too far at this stage, but I would try to make it for Mithi this year (one way or other) as I have never attended that event or visited the place!

    Stage-II in Lahore

Kaikra was sent for denting and removal/repair of rusted pieces. Luckily there was only one area with rust, front piece on the drive side of the engine bay. Front lights, indicators and grill was realigned and the portions fabricated in City Sadar will be painted.

    Default Its Your Fault!

An FB joke and a pretty bad one at that, but seems like a good thing to tell the bechaari Evo, "Its all your fault that you ended up like this! Had you pulled your third gears well enough, had you run the 180 that you were supposed to in teh sand, had you at least been as fast as your sister married in Multan, had you beaten the old man's supari at qualification, all this would never had happened! We hate to say this but: iss se to behtar thaa ke tum Toyota paida howee hoti!" Haha: I kill me !

The HiLex Kaikra and Pajero Evolution 2JZGTE Builds! -1277377

Anyways, crap jokes aside, the thing is finally all together and it seems to be happening at long last! The dampener on the festivities is that once the 2JZ has begun to show its GTE colors, the stock Evo clutch has put in an application for an early retirement! On full throttle, the slippage starts with the first turbo coming on to full spool and there on its a matter of seconds before you can possibly roast the whole thing unless you ease off the accelerator. Nevertheless, still possible to drive it in a decently upbeat manner if your careful enough. It sounds very nice with the straight pipe exhaust, the temperature seems to hold well and the intercooler (although not ideal) is enabling a decent enough kick for the time being! Finally, the balance of the car is pretty much intact from what I can gather and it seems to be only about half an inch or so lower at the front than stock engine! Quite easy to ignore progress made when your in the thick of it, but by all means its been no small affair! Maashallah, touch wood happy that we made it this far without any major debacles. Am confident now that Qasim & Team will Inshallah be able to re-turn the 101 back on the podiums! Must admit here that if not amongst the many skeptics, I was definitely one sitting on the fence on this project

Update on Kaikra is long overdue, fact is that hardly any work was done on it mainly because I was preparing my Nissan VTC for the last rally season. Now that the season is over, Kaikra gets the priority again

Got its interior fixed, new underlay/carpet, door paneling ect.

Genuine diesel fuel tank for 2L had to be replaced because it had rust, finding gasoline tank for Kaikra was next to impossible in Bilal Gunj, we tried sevral gasoline tanks but none could fit in its OEM space, so a fiber/plastic tank for gasoline powered 3400cc, 2006 Prado, with genuine fuel pump and fuel level guage was purchased and fixed in the luggage bay

Couple of weekends ago, Yasir (yaserag) and I, alongwith some friends decided to take Kaikra out for a spin on the western bank of river Ravi, we had a meter down on motorway, sand runs in river bed and obstacles on river/flood protection banks. Had a couple of problems like rear diff started screaming, the battery brackets came off, but 1UZ powered Kaikra amazed everyone, rather brought smiles to everyone.

Rear Diff was replaced with a Kabuli one and the battery bracket was welded/strengthened.

Another issue that emerged after offroading was that the front leaf springs of Kaikra could not hold the extra weight of 1UZ and they bent inwards. So, front leaf spring have been sent for quenching and an extra leaf will be added in front so that they may hold the extra weight of engine/abuse of offroading and sand bashing

Now that Kaikra is mechanically okay,, its modifications to add the goodies started, for the purpose, meeting between Yaseag and Dr. Zahid was managed last Saturday, following which, rough design of Kaikra's front steel rod bumper, housing a winch, was finalized. Work started and it should be back within the next 2 or 3 days

The front frame cross member seems to have been removed/cut-off. Important that it is replaced as close to the original location or frame reinforced otherwise to compensate as the leaf springs put a lot of force in that area. Generally don't like the idea of front winch so far forward particularly on this car, but depends on what use the vehicle would have and how it will be driven. Nevertheless, quite interesting that two rally guys have finalised this design

Looks lovely with the sporty rims though!

Work to prepare the Evo for the upcoming rally season finally started. It was parked for almost a year without being moved an inch.

3 years of rally abuse, one roll over and numerous idiotic jumps had damaged the chassis. This coupled with the fact that a heavier inline 6 twin turbo 2JZ engine had been put in place of its genuine V6 6G74 Mivec. Engine placement was not ideal because the vehicle was more front heavy, so it was decided to strip the Evo to its bare bones, place the engine/gear properly i.e. where it is balanced again and refurbish the rest of the Evo around it.
