Hmm well, ecu wiring is very simple and similar for both early and late model non-vvti engines. The VVTi engines are admittedly more complex with DBW throttle and immobilizer equipped ecu, but I've seen so many successful swaps here in Karachi that it seems these items are no longer an issue.

To your second point, be my guest, if you can find one. You know better than anyone that early UZs are getting rarer than hen's teeth. Of course a fresh junkyard UZ will cost less than a rebuild.

Well the right answer to the trick question I believe would have been that you'd only go this route if your looking at FI. Otherwise, 1UZs are still available plenty enough and you could just go 1UZvvti or 3UZ. The vvti does not need a DBW and wiring is not an issue anymore for any of these.

Nevertheless, on the "proppa" rebuild parts list, your kidding me right???!!! Your recommending this to me for an 8 cylinder engine, seriously!!??

@SuhaibKiani, all the 1UZ VVTi motors I have seen had servo actuated throttle bodies. Do you mean you can swap a regular TB on it and the ecu will correctly pick up the TPS reading? If so, that is fantastic.

I too share your concerns on rebuilding these engines. 4 cams, 32 valves? Enough to cause nightmares!

I believe some 1UZ vvtis do have cable actuated throttle bodies. At least all the two or three that were converted in Citi Sadar Road did not need the DBWs....

To be clear, I am all for rebuilding engines wherever possible because its a skill and knowledge resource that you cannot do without in the long run. In that sense, Sami is right in laying down the list of parts that would be needed and I am just pulling his leg on the cost and benefit here. Nevertheless, the issue remains that even if one can get all the parts down, in a rally situation the engine remains at risk and there is precious little evidence of rebuilt engines lasting it out. I am not sure whether its the torque specs or some other missing link, but surely at this stage there is enough loose rope in there to hang yourself even if your very methodic about it.

I was infact going for an FI build. Otherwise, put in a later VVTi 1/3UZ and call it a day. There are *plenty* of those lying around.

Workshop is close to the old one, but on the Main Railway Road linking CSR to Westridge / Rata.
We normally use this road for testing and its just right of the second speed bump.
Let me know when your free and we can hop along there....
