Default TLC 80 Series Swap 1UZ-FE

Assalamalikum everyone , I just bought a land cruiser 80 series (4.2 Diesel) but i think its underpowerd and i was thinking to convert it to Petrol . Now as i have researched , am interested in 1UZ-FE ( vvti or not ) to swap in my cruiser . My Questions are :

    1. What about the transmission? Will it work with my current one ?
    2. 1UZ-FE is a Rear Wheel drive engine and the cruiser is all time 4wd ( as far as i know ) so will it work with the 4x4?
    3. Is it an easy just bolt on swap or there would be some cutting or anything like that ?
    4. The prices here are quite high as compared to Ebay. VVTi is for 250k to 270k here . Will importing the engine be better ?

    Thanks.

    Regards .

    @TLCFJ40

Sir actually the lc80 i bought couple of months ago, it was petrol 1FZ-FE, Now i had some incident and found out there was something wrong with the paper work of lc . And i decided to get rid of it now . I started this thread and said i have a lc with 4.2 Diesel because i was planing to buy one with that engine ( its cheaper then Petrol version ) . Now coming to the 1UZ , well when i was driving my lc ( b4 the incident ) a friend of mine was easily catching up with me with a 3.4 1996 Surf . But i didnt wanted to change the engine at that time , i thought ill install some charger or turbo in the same engine , but after the incident now i was planing to buy a diesel one and convert it to petrol , the 1FZ-FE had 212 bhp , and the 1UZ vvti has nearly 300 bhp . That is the reason i was more inclined towards swapping a 1UZ.

I fail to understand why would someone want a LC for drags or racing purpose. U can not compare a light weight surf v6 with a heavy lc 80 with a 1fz-fe ( not knowing if it was even tunned or not). Was the engine on that lc tunned to perfection even if it was do you really think their is a comparison between a lc80 and surf 3400cc. 1uz is a fast engine but the weight of lc80 will matter. Some one i knew put the same 3400cc in a lc 80 and the rig was having problem handling peer sahawah climb. Power to weight ratio matters a lot. 1fz-fe can be tunned to give out more than 1000hp. Google it....if u wana play drag get a civic...or get a hilux and put a 1uz in it...

How about installing a CT-26 in 1HD-FT, How much bhp and torque would increase ? It will cost nearly 1 lac till here in pakistan .

I completely disagree. 260 hp, even 300 hp does not make a "beast" unless it's in a car that weighs under 3000 lbs. The 1UZ in my CJ7 moves it quick, but I doubt it will be much of a beast in a LC80 that's at least 1500 lbs heavier.

Actually, the 4.1 ratio diffs in the diesel LC80 are better suited for the 1UZ than the 3.7 ratio diffs of the FZ version. It will make up for the comparative lack of off idle torque. If you choose to use an auto tranny behind the 1UZ then even the 3.7 diffs will be fine. Remember, the 1UZ revs effortlessly so you don't run out of RPMs if you use a 4.1 ratio diff.

The 3400cc 5VZFE is an anemic engine. It makes less power than even a 3.0 L 2JZGE out a Crown. Its not much to write about in a Surf, so I can imagine how dismal it must be in a LC80.

All in all, I would advise sticking with a 1HDFT. It's a marvelous engine. You can start with simply increasing the boost on the stock turbo, instead of upgrading the turbo right out of the gate. Google will give you plenty of results for easy 1HDFT modifications. Plus. there's nothing quite like driving a high performance diesel. No petrol engine can deliver the same kind of torque

Don't have his number on me, but pretty sure someone else out here must have it. On the gear ratios, I thought that the 1HD-FT ran a 4.1 in which case it should be fine. In any case, unless you have access to a really good mechanical/electrical team, you should not be doing this swap as there are a lot of places where someone could mess things up. Its probably much more fun playing around with the 1HD boost and all. There is a video of an IJC drag on Chilas airport somewhere (the 2011 Deosai thread I believe), whereby a 1HD TLC80 gives everyone a surprisingly good run for their money so it may be worthwhile experimenting with what you have before you start cutting things up. All the Best!

Yeah actually at the moment , my budget is not allowing me to do experiment on a swap . I was thinking to upgrade the stock 1HD .

Can you give me some idea about the price a 1FZ-FE these days? Also, how much would be the tranny?

    Thanks
The Shelby Mustang is a high performance variant of the Ford Mustang, built by Ford from 1968 through 1970. The 1965, 1966 and 1967 Shelbys were a series of Ford Mustangs which were specially modified by Carroll Shelby's company and sold under the name Shelby GT with identification badges Shelby Cobra. From 1968 the model became the Shelby Cobra GT. The program was factory-sponsored by Ford to compete with the Corvette, also factory-sponsored by Chevrolet, neither of which could be built for the sales price charged. In 2007, following the introduction of the Fifth-generation Ford Mustang the Shelby nameplate was revived for new high performance versions of the Mustang.

I was also wondering about swapping the 1HDFT with a 2UZ. I'll most prolly get the gearbox that comes with the 2UZ but what about the differentials? The car is a selectable 4x4 and not an all time 4x4 TLC80.

if u desire manual h151f is good for all of the following...1hd-ft / 1 hd-fte / 1uz fe / 2 uz-fe. If u want a auto tranny a343f is the one u should go for. Will Always suggest to stay as close to stock setting as possible if u don't wish to live in a workshop. For 80 series 1 fzfe is the best option plenty of power low maintenance and millage 6 in city 7 highway with a light foot. Good part it simply is a bolt on.

If you go for a 1UZFE non-VVTi version, you might get away with mating a Prado 90 transfer case to the original A341E off of the 1UZ and making a A341/A343 hybrid using OEM toyota parts

If you go for the 1UZFE VVTi however, the transmission is an A650E 5-speed auto that will be a bit more difficult to mate with the transfer case (LC80s or LC90s). So a custom A/T gearbox to transfer case adaptor will be needed.

The A/T that came with the LC80 is an A442F.
