    Default First TDCP Rohtas 4X4 Rally 2013 : IJC Race Report

    Al-hamdolillah, Team IJC is back after successful participation at the 1st TDCP Rohtas Bike and 4X4 Rally held at the Kahan river bed near the historic Rohtas Fort near Jehlum. Congratulations to Dr Nadeem Naeem who secured third position in Category A on his Nissan Patrol Pickup! The excellent event was well attended by notable rally teams from across the country and was warmly received by local population and administration. Special thanks to TDCP partcularly Fayyaz Sb, Raja Aamer and Qasim Saidhi for organizing and making the event possible. Nadir Magsi and Qasim Saidhi secured first and second positions respectively in Category A while Asad Khohro stood first in Category B.

    You were quick in the last third of stage. In that last 8.5km (after motorcycle race finish point to our 4X4 stage finish point) you were 1:20 quicker!

    Its probably just that! A chip that turns up the fuelling and timing and a high-lift cam that enables full utilization of the added fuel. In terms of BHP these engines (1kd and 1hd) will still be making less than petrol ones, but they probably are getting tremendous amounts of torque quite early and fairly constant through the rev range. In our little dyno experiment of turning up fuel and timing on the 2LT while the BHP gains were marginal, we were calculating (not sure how accurately) some 200 ft.lbs of peak torque on something that is supposed to net about 140. Thats a whole lot of torque and with the drivers getting better and better at putting it to the ground, no wonder that the Vigos seem to be getting faster every season.

    The unsung hero of the rally has to be Rana Sumair on his Vigo who was only seconds behind Nadir in the first round and was deeply disappointed at the finish after losing his engine to water woes. As per my calculations he was running some 30 secs faster than NN by the middle of round 2 when he overtook us. About at this point, Qasim and Rizwan had also gone shopping for sand and bajri during their second round and spent some 2 mins scouting the Rohtas bajri market before getting back on track after showing off some light offroading skills to the IJC crew under the bridge. So the second position seemed wide open for Rana Sumair but unfortunately his 1kd seems to have gone into limp mode despite the snorkel. Nevertheless, a brilliant show of driving skills by Rana Sumair who has become a good friend of the IJC team particularly NN

    there are some engine management systems for the 1kd out there that coupled with a 3" downpipe/exhaust put out close to 360lb.ft around 1200rpm...very high end... very expensive +$1500 for an ECU... throw in lift cams, a bigger turbo, boost controllers and water meth injection and you have a race engine on your hands... alas na itna kharcha kar saktay hein aur na itnay baray "scientist" hein hum.. filhal stock gari par guzara karein ge

    Your video was very nice and looks like u have quite smooth ride is that same Surf which rolled over in Jhal?

    And your water crossing was very good, on good pace still i m thinking why you didnt make in top ranking? I would love to see any video of your water crossing from outside, your splashes would be tremendous.

    A lot of childhood dreams must have been fulfilled splashing water like that haha. Great run and it does feel your run is faster at places compared to NN but NN run had smoothness and rhythm.

    interestingly our runs were fairly similar till the deep water crossing, asad is also more or less in the same ballpark... infact you have around 20 secs on me till that point ... all three vehicles ingested water at that point but i guess the 1kd recovered quicker ... the last 3rd, i was more comfortable with because of the recce and the fact that i knew there were more or less no "khaddas" so we floored it...must say looking at all the videos the surfs shockers seem to be taking the bumps quite well ..

    actually our 1st run was very good by our standards and a couple of navigational blunders (3 to be exact... my estimate is we lost close to 3.5mins in all) cost us time on the 2nd run, we were hoping for a sub 23 min time and would have gotten there ... but that still wasnt good for a podium in the B category as most of the big guns run in it. Next time i'll run in the A category ..

    NN's 2nd run is flawless and he posted a great overall time, your comment about rhythm is spot on especially with that soundtrack playing ... for us finishing was paramount as it was only our 2nd rally, finishing respectably was a major bonus

    Finally saw the full video. Very nice run indeed! The water crossings in second half were quite vicious! The engine seems to be a bit subdued without that turbo whistle, though it does seem like the car is going much faster than 95/100 kmph. Suspension behaviour is very nice as well, a little bit trophy truck like with the soft front. Also saw Qasim's video over the weekend, which is actually somewhat similar to yours generally with cam placement, water splashes and suspension etc except he seems to be holding 130 kmph or so making the thing all that more vicious!

    Not of the best of launches or video, but we'll live with pole position even if its only by draw.



    And yes, you can try, but you can't keep the crowd quiet with the FJ, someone will have something to say one way or the other
